Marcus Williams is an NFL safety who currently plays for the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League (NFL). Williams’ love for football began in high school where he played as a Wide Receiver. He had a very successful senior season recording forty-one (41) passes for 924 yards and 9 touchdowns. After a productive high school career, he would play college football at Utah before making it into the apex football league in America.

Marcus Williams’ Bio

Williams (Marcus Alan Williams) was born in Corona, California, on the 8th day of September 1996. He attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Eastvale, California, where he launched his football career playing both as a wide receiver and as a defensive end.

Marcus initially had a flair for basketball but soon changed to football after watching one of his brothers when he was just about eight years, he fell in love with the game of football and has been faithful to it since then.

As a senior, Marcus made forty-one (41) passes for 924 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also ran track and played basketball. He played the first half of his senior season without getting any scholarship offers of any kind from any school but towards the end of the season, he got offers from California Golden Bears football team and even Washington Huskies football team but chose to commit himself to the University of Utah.

As a freshman at Utah, Marcus played thirteen games that season, starting six of them. He ended his first year with the team with fifty-nine (59) tackles and one interception. During his sophomore year, he recorded sixty-five (65) tackles and 5 interceptions in thirteen starts to earn the first team All-Pac-12.

Despite missing some games in his junior season due to injury, he still played in eleven (11) games, recording sixty-four tackles and 5 interceptions and earned a second-team All-Pac-12 selection. After his junior season, he entered the 2017 NFL Draft, finishing his college career with a total of eleven (11) interceptions and 188 tackles.

NFL Draft experts and sports writers projected that Marcus Williams would be selected in the first or second round of the draft and their predictions were accurate as he was drafted in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

After announcing his eligibility for the NFL draft, Williams got an invitation to the Combine where he displayed his explosive speed and leaped 43.5 inches to be rated three-star recruit by Rivals.

NFL analysts rated him the 5th best free safety in the draft, while Sports Illustrated and NFLDraftScout.com ranked him 3rd best and ESPN rated him 8th best.

The New Orleans Saints drafted Marcus Williams as the 42nd overall in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft and he became the 6th safety to be selected in the draft. By June, he signed a 4-year contract with the franchise for $6.24 million, including $3.42 million as guaranteed money and a signing bonus of $2.67 million.

At the training camp, he competed for the position of the free starting safety with Vonn Bell, whom he later backed up during the regular season. His first NFL game was against Minnesota Vikings, that game was his first career start and it was also in that game that he recorded 5 combined tackles.

He would then end his rookie season with a total of seventy-three (73) combined tackles, 7 pass deflections, and 4 interceptions in the 15 games he played, starting all fifteen of them. In 2018, Marcus Williams started his 1st career playoff game and recorded 8 combined tackles and one pass deflection.

His Family

His parents are Franschell and Sylvester Williams. Marcus is the youngest of the four sons born to the couple. He has three older brothers – Brian, Eric, and Jonathan. Brian is fourteen years older than Marcus; Eric is 9- years older, and Jonathan is four years older than him.

Williams’ family is a close knitted family which does things together. Despite the age differences between Marcus and his older brothers, they still find time for fun things like camping, hiking, fishing, playing cards, dominoes, etc.

He is also a member of a very disciplined and cultured family. On speaking about his family, Willimas said he recalls how his mom taught him to be his own person, to be a leader, not and not a follower.
