Mama June is a famous American television personality who is also renown as the mother of celebrated American child star Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson. The family rose to prominence by appearing on TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras before venturing out to have their own show called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The show ran from August 8, 2012, until August 14, 2014, when it got canceled following a series of allegations against Mama June. However, it made a comeback on our television screens when TLC aired the remaining parts on April 21, 2017. Since then, Mama June has had a couple of things that kept her in the news. Here, we will give answers to some of the questions that have been recently asked about her; first, let’s take a look at her background.
Who is Mama June?
Her real name is June Edith Shannon and she was born on the 10th of August 1979 in McIntyre, Georgia to parents, Melvin Shannon and Alexandra “Sandra” Hale. Mama June was sadly born into a troubled home such that when she was just 2 years old, her parents divorced. She was thereafter raised by her mom alongside her two siblings (sisters) Joanne “Doe Doe” Shannon and Jimmy Shannon.
During her high school days, at around 14 years old, June got pregnant with her first child and as a result, she dropped out of school. She gave birth just a few days after her 15th birthday to a baby girl named Anna aka “Chickadee.” Following the birth of her daughter, she gave attention to her education and later earned her General Education Development certificate.
As she got older, Mama June was in a couple of relationships which resulted in the birth of 3 other daughters. With Michael Anthony Ford, she gave birth to Jessica and Lauryn, June then dated Mark McDaniel before she hit it off with Mike Thompson with whom she bore her last daughter named Alana. She, however, reportedly split from him in 2011 with allegations that he was abusive to her as well as cheated while they were together.
Currently, Edith Shannon is in a relationship with Geno Doak. It should be noted that Michael and Mark turned out to be convicted sex offenders while Geno has a criminal record for theft, burglary, and damage to property. She seems to be deeply in love with Geno and has even expressed her willingness to marry him but hinted that he seems to be scared of marriage.
Mama June kicked off her television career in 2008 while appearing along with her daughter on TLC’s reality series titled Toddlers & Tiaras. The show is an American reality series that showcases the personal lives of families of contestants in a child beauty pageant. The Shannons garnered wide popularity through the show and equally became fans favorites. Prior to the end of the show on October 16, 2013, a spin-off Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was created.
The spin-off centered on the lives of Mama June and her family outside of pageantry. It ran from August 8, 2012, until August 14, 2014. Subsequently, some of the recorded episodes of the show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo: The Lost Episodes, aired on TLC in April 2017.
Is Mama June Pregnant?
The television personality got fans of her reality television show on the edge following a return of the Season 3 of Mama June: From Not to Hot. A trailer of the new season captured her admitting that she has gained a little more weight but will never get close to her 450 lbs record weight prior to her physical transformation. The footage also had her disclosing that her monthly period was a little late for the month before it flashed to other shots of the new season.
Apparently, the trailer suggests that Mama June’s weight gain could possibly be as a result of stress or that she is probably eating for two. Most of her fans are agog to find out for themselves whether she is pregnant or not when the new season begins on March 15 on WE TV.
How Much Weight Has She Lost, How Did She Achieve That?
If there is one thing Mama June will hardly ever be disassociated from, it will be her morbid obesity which she was known with as an adult. At her peak, she weighed 204 kg, equivalent to 450 pounds and it was almost as if she will never get lighter.
However, through a combination of some processes, one of which is known as bariatric surgery which entails sleeve gastrectomy/reducing the size of the stomach, Mama June lost about 300 lbs or 136 kg of her body weight. June was able to achieve this weight loss through exercise, healthy dieting, working out with her personal trainer who suggested helpful healthy tips and also made her accountable for her various lifestyle choices and lastly her 2016 surgery.
Having lost so much weight, June still needed to align her looks with her new body feel, so she reportedly went for cosmetic surgery, obviously one of the best which cost her about $75, 000.
Seeing the success she recorded with her weight loss, another reality television show Mama June: From Not to Hot which focused on her remarkable weight loss journey premiered on WE TV on 24 February 2017 with the second season airing on 5 January 2018. Some recent reports about her have it that she seems to have added a few more pounds but definitely not in any way near her pre-bariatric surgery weight.
