Luke Wilson is a household name in the American movie industry where he has featured in tons of films since the early 1990s. He is best known for his portrayal as the stable, good-guy love interest in romantic comedies like Legally Blonde with Reese Witherspoon and on television shows like HBO’s Enlightened. Wilson is also popular for his role in The Royal Tenenbaums, Old School, Idiocracy, Bottle Rocket, Blue Streak, and many others.

Besides acting and making films, Luke Wilson is a writer and the author of Tactile: Juggling and Other Touchy Subjects: A Collection of Essays, Blogs and Rants.

Luke Cunningham Wilson as his full name goes, was born on September 21, 1971, in Dallas, Texas. He is the youngest of three sons of his parents, Laura Cunningham Wilson, a photographer and Robert Andrew Wilson (1941-2017) who was an advertising executive at KERA, a public television station.

The entire family built a career in entertainment as his older brothers  Andrew and Owen Wilson are all Hollywood actors and directors. And all three siblings attended all-boys St. Mark’s School of Texas, where Luke Wilson was the class president during his first year.

After school, he joined the family’s line of work and took up his first major acting role in the short film Bottle Rocket (1994), a movie co-written by his brother Owen.

To expand his career scope, he moved to Hollywood with his brothers where he landed another movie role alongside Calista Flockhart in the drama film Telling Lies in America in 1997 

The same year, Luke made a cameo appearance in the film-within-the-film of Scream 2 and Best Men with Drew Barrymore. This was followed by three more movie projects in 1998 including Home Fries, Dog Park, and Rushmore.

In 1999, Wilson was featured as detective Carlson in the buddy cop comedy film, Blue Streak which was his second project that year. He remained active on more project through 2000 to present, working on up to 2-6 movies every year. From 2000 to 2010, he featured in the following movies: Charlie’s Angels (200); Soul Survivors (2001); The Third Wheel (2002); Stuck on You (2003); Around the World in 80 Days (2004); The Family Stone (2005); My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006).

Wilson featured in six movies in 2007 including the horror film Vacancy; Blades of Glory; Blonde Ambition; Battle for Terra; You Kill Me and 3:10 to Yuma. That year he also worked the comedy-drama Henry Poole is Here which was released in 2008.

His movies starting from 2015 through 2019 are Meadowland (2015); The Ridiculous 6 (2015); Outlaws and Angels (2016); Brad’s Status (2017); Measure of a Man (2018). He starred as Larry Decker in the upcoming movie The Goldfinch which is an adaptation of a novel of the same and is been scheduled to be released on October 11, 2019.

So far the Texas native has garnered a number of awards, nominations and overall achievement in the course his career. Already his name graces Texas Film Hall of Fame and has been since he was induced on March 12, 2015, during their awards ceremony in Austin, Texas.

In 2005, Wilson earned the Festival Award at Vail Film Festival for his role in The Wendell Baker Story. He also won the Lone Star Special Award for Debut of the Year for his first and major movie role Bottle Rocket in 1996.

Wilson was nominated in 2003 for the MTV Movie Award for Best On-Screen Team for Old School.
