If you are a big fan of all things tech, then you must know Linus Sebastian, a YouTube personality, presenter, producer, and founder of Linus Media Group better known for the creation and hosting of three highly successful tech-related Youtube channels. In 2015, Sabastine was ranked 4th by Inc. magazine in a list of the Top 30 Power Players in Tech. Here are some interesting details about him.

Linus Sebastian’s Biography

Linus Gabriel Sebastian was born on the 20th of August, 1986, in Vancouver (a coastal seaport city in British Columbia), Canada. He has six siblings as well as a half-sibling. He is popularly known for his works on some Youtube Channels including Channel Super Fun, Linus Tech Tips, and Techquickie. These channels were created by him and they have a combined subscriber base of over 8 million. Between 2007 and 2015, Linus worked as a frequent host of technology videos for the Canadian computer retailer NCIX.

As a kid, Linus had always been fascinated with technology. After graduating from Garibaldi Secondary School, he enrolled in the University of British Colombia. However, he dropped out a couple of years later with reasons being that he used to spend most of his time “tinkering with his computer, hanging out on hardware forums and playing video games.”

He was still a student when he got a part-time job working on weekends for NCIX. He was later hired as a full-time employee working in the sales department. He quickly rose to become the company’s top seller in terms of high-end gaming systems within just a few months in the company. Having observed this progress, the president of the company soon offered him a new position at the head office where he was tasked with managing the system configurations on the company’s website.

Sebastian was indeed a hard worker as he was quite pivotal to helping NCIX become the number 1 seller in water cooling parts in Canada. This further propelled him to clinch the opportunity of managing core business components like SSDs, RAM, motherboards, and networking. A few years later, as a result of his impressive performance, Sebastian was promoted to the position of a category manager.

Youtube Channel And Hosting

By 2007, NCIX asked him to become the host of their technology Channel. This channel was basically created to demonstrate product offers in order to keep up with the company’s rivals such as “Newegg” and “TigerDirect.” On the 24th of July of the same year, Linus posted his first video. This was done with the aid of an editor and an unnamed cameraman after having borrowed a camera from the son of the president of the company.

The initial response to the video was quite discouraging, however, a different channel “LinusTechTips” was created on the 24th of November 2008 by Sebastian. This was done in order to maintain a modest cost for video making while dissociating it from the company so as not to be seen as one that produces sub-standard contents.

In early 2012, Sebastian created another channel called “Techquickie” with the help of Luke Lafreniere (aka SlickPC) who he met while working in NCIX. The aim of the channel was to provide information concerning the latest cool technology in few minutes. However, in January 2013, Sebastian and Luke left the company in order to go start another company. They were joined by Brandon Lee and Edzel Yago together with whom they founded “Linus Media Group” out of a garage.

A new channel named “Channel Super Fun” was created in May 2014. Sebastian and his partner Lafreniere used “Twitch” to live stream the show which is generally based on discussions regarding latest technology news as well as Q&As. The show had aired a total of 184 episodes by June 2017. There are a few other projects Sabastine and his company have worked on. Some of the notable ones include; “Whole Room Water Cooling” (2014-2015), “Scrapyard Wars” (2015-Present), “7 Gamers 1 CPU” (2015-2016), and “8/10 Gamers, 1 CPU” (2016).

When interviewed by “Lifehacker.com,” Sebastian’s work ethics was put in a nutshell with his own words, “Execution is everything. Sitting around and planning is worthless unless it turns into something tangible. You’re better off to have 100% execution of a 50% plan than 50% execution of a 100% plan. Nothing drives me crazier than sitting around pontificating about “the perfect way to do something’ when we’re in a hurry, which is always if you want to get anything done.”

Net Worth

Linus has definitely done well for himself over the years. From his days working with NCIX, to hosting tech vlogs on Youtube, to founding his own company; his wealth sits pretty at a whopping $2.1 million. The future is indeed bright for the young C.E.O as his wealth is poised to increase in the coming years even as he expands his fan and audience base.
