The Chicago hip-hop music scene has been bustling and brimming with a newly found verve over the last decade. There seems to be an endless stream of young talent coming through, propagating the drill music. One of the shining lights of the last 7 years is Lil Durk.
Lil Durk’s Biography
Lil Durk born as Durk Banks is an American rapper who is currently a performing artist under Def Jam Recordings. He is at the moment, the leader of OTF (Only the Family). He was born on the 19th of October 1992 and grew up in Englewood, a suburb neighbourhood of the South Side of Chicago.
His music career kicked off in 2011 when he became affiliated with another rapper from Chicago, Chief Keef’s label which was previously called Glory Boyz Entertainment. Though he has been around the scene for a while, his career only started receiving public praise when he released his hit singles titled Sneak Dissing and I’ma Hitta which went a long way to place him on the musical map.
He then went on to release a mixtape in October of 2012 titled Life ain’t no joke which as of September 2015 has been downloaded well over 210,000 times. Due to his rapidly increasing profile, Lil Durk’s follow up single Dis Aint What You Want was rewarded with the joint venture deal with his personal record label Only The Family (OTF) and Def Jam Recordings.
On March the 25th in 2015, Lil Durk announced that his first original album was due to be released on the 12th of May 2015. Coincidentally, that was the same day the first album’s single titled Like Me was released, featuring fellow Chicago label mate Jerimih, however, to the dismay of his adoring public, Lil Durk on the 20th of April 2015 pushed back the release Date to the 2nd of June.
The album was released and it peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 200 with 28,000 of equivalent album units. The album did quite well in the market in its first week, selling over 24,000 copies.
In November 2016, Lil Durk released his seventh mixtape, titled They Fogot. The much more improved groove had guest appearances from Meek Mill, Lil Reese among others.
As is the case with almost every hip-hop musician Lil Durk’s life isn’t without controversies, his Manager Uchenna Agina, also known as OTF Chino was shot and killed in Chicago. According to the Chicago Tribune, he was shot multiple times whilst in his car at around 1:50 am. Durk was arrested in 2011 on the account of a weapon charge and sentenced to jail for 3 months, he was soon released on bail only to be sent back to serve 87 more days.
He was arrested on the account of him having a 40 caliber handgun in his car when approached by the cops in Chicago. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon. And in the year 2014, his house was searched and he was convicted of second-degree murder and possession of guns but was cleared on August 19, 2016.

Lil Durk is swamped with baby momma drama; he has 3 children from 2 separate women. His first son Angelo was born in August 2011 and his mother is Nicole Covone. Nicole is also the mother of Lil Durk’s second child Bella born in 2013. In that same year, the rapper welcomed his third child Zayden and in an interview some months back, he suggested he wanted to have 10 children.

Lil Durk’s brother popularly known as D’thang was also into the rap business. His real names are Devon Varner, he was born and raised in Chicago. He was a member of a gang back on the south side in Chicago known as the “Black Disciples”. Lil Durk’s brother D’thang was killed in a gang operation gone back in 2011. He remains the only sibling the rapper had.
