She is well known for her roles in movies such as The Fault in Our StarsJurassic Park as well as the 2017 box-office monster Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Laura Elizabeth Dern was born on February 10, 1967, in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, California. Her mother Diane Ladd and her father Bruce Dern are both actors. Her parents’ marriage fell apart when she was 2 years of age after which she was raised by her mother and grandmother.

Laura Dern had her college education at the University of California, Los Angeles after which she also studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She marked her professional acting debut in the action film White Lightning (1973) starring alongside her mother. Dern appeared in a few minor roles afterward and eventually landed her first major role in the 1982 film Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains. She also recorded notable roles in films like Mask (1985), Blue Velvet (1986) and Wild at Heart (1990).

Dern was the lead star of the film Rambling Rose (1991) in which her mother Diane Ladd played a supporting role. They both eventually received an Academy Award nomination each for their respective performances and thus they became the first mother-daughter duo to be nominated for an Academy Award for starring in the same movie. Her performance in the telefilm Afterburn (1992) also fetched her a Golden Globe Award for Best TV Actress.

Laura Dern’s starring role as Dr. Ellie Sattler in the Steven Spielberg box-office hit Jurassic Park (1993) remains one of the most notable roles of her career. The talented actress also starred in Clint Eastwood‘s A Perfect World (1993), Jurassic Park III (2001), The Fault in Our Stars (2014) and the biopic Wild (2014), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Laura Dern’s most notable relationship yet was with musician Ben Harper whom she met in 2000. After several years of dating, the duo tied the knot on December 23, 2005, at their residence in Los Angeles. They had 2 children together. They welcomed their first child on the 21st of August 2001, a son named Ellery Walker Harper. Their second child was born on November 28, 2004, a daughter named Jaya Harper.

After 5 years of marriage, Harper filed for divorce in October 2010. However, they did not go through with this initial divorce process as they briefly reconciled in 2012. Laura Dern later restarted the process in July 2012 and their divorce was ultimately finalized in September 2013.

Following her split from Ben Harper, Laura Dern has been linked with hip-hop artist Common as well as former NBA star Baron Davis. However, none of these relationships was confirmed.
