Prior to joining the NBA, he played for the University of Texas as a power forward but after two seasons with the school, he decided it was time to go pro. LaMarcus was the second overall pick during the 2006 NBA draft, with Andrea Bargnani snagging the coveted ‘number one draft pick’ honor.

Since his professional debut, LaMarcus Aldrige has been pretty impressive on the court, especially garnering attention for his well-known signature fadeaway jump shot.

Who is LaMarcus Aldridge?

LaMarcus Nurae Aldridge was born on the 19th of July, 1985. He achieved international attention as an American professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA. After he was selected as the second overall pick during the 2006 NBA draft, he was with the Portland Trail Blazers for nine seasons but signed with the Spurs in 2015.

Very quick and aggressive on the ground, his height and his athletic body supported him in becoming a top player. But sadly, in 2007, he suffered from the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a heart ailment, thus, LaMarcus was forced to miss the rest of the 2006-2007 regular season to treat his ailment. In the 2011-12 season, the baller further underwent surgery to correct complications associated with his heart condition. However, ever since then, he’s being back playing at the top flight of the sport.

Family: Dad, Brother

When LaMarcus Aldridge was born in Dallas, Texas, no one was surprised as he came into the world at 11 pounds and 22-plus inches. His mother, Georgia, stands at an impressive height of 6 ft 2 inches while his father, Marvin, towers at 6 ft 6 in. Growing up, LaMarcus enjoyed football and was a supporter of the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys notwithstanding, basketball was the family game. Marvin was a high school basketball legend, as was LaVontae – LaMarcus’ older brother. LaMarcus Aldridge has the physical appearance to excel at basketball but not the raw talent. This could be the result of his not joining his first league until he was in 4th Grade.

LaMarcus was often the last boy picked in ‘pick-up games’. Sadly, basketball was a lesson in humiliation for most of his childhood. It did not help that his dad had a drinking problem and the fact that the lights were shut off because sometimes the bills didn’t get paid on time. His father, Marvin, wasn’t very involved in LaMarcus’s life. By the time LaMarcus reached his teen years, his mother had kicked his father out of the house.

At the end of the day, LaMarcus channeled all this to become a player and needless to say, that dedication paid off for him.
