Kurt Vogel Russell was born on March 17, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts. His father, Bing Russell, was an actor and his mother, Louise Julia (née Crone) was a dancer. He grew up with three sisters, Jill, Jamie, and Jody. He schooled at Thousand Oaks High School and was a member of the school’s baseball team.

He started out as a child actor in the early 1960s appearing in a number of TV series and eventually marking his movie debut in the Elvis Presley 1963 musical It Happened at the World’s Fair. He equally landed a regular role in the short-lived series The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters (1963-64).
