Kodak Black is a 20-year old rapper from Florida who got noticed in 2015 when world-famous Canadian rapper Drake, posted a video of himself dancing to one of his songs, SKRT. Following this, Kodak got signed to Atlantic Records. He became increasingly famous after his debut studio album Painting Pictures came out in 2017. Kodak has been compared to Lil Wayne, another Louisiana rapper who attained fame at a young age. His style has also been compared to that of American rapper Boosie Badazz, his biggest idol, with whom he shares an untampered localized brawl.
His first mixtape Project Baby was released in 2013. Kodak Black is well known for his hit singles No Flockin and Tunnel Vision as well as his numerous run-ins with the law even as his music is frequently about previous and future criminal misdeeds. His first arrest was for burglary and at the time of the arrest, he wasn’t even 16 years old. Kodak caught his first punishable-by-life charge for Grand Theft Auto when he was in middle-school. He was placed in a youth detention centre three times in one year, and then placed on probation.
Kodak Black was born Dieuson Octave on June 11, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida. He started rapping in elementary school and began going to a local trap house to record music after school. Growing up, he often read dictionaries and the thesaurus to improve his vocabulary. This helped him excel in school as he used to beat high-schoolers in spelling bees.
He ventured into rap at the age of 12 after he became a member of a rap group called Brutal Youngnz and adopted the stage name J-Black. He later joined another local rap group called The Kolyons. He adopted the username “Kodak Black” when he joined Instagram and this later became his stage name. In 2014, Kodak Black got enrolled at the Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach to pursue his high school diploma.
Octave has been a figure of controversy mainly due to his legal issues and social media interactions. His Instagram account hit a record high in January 2017 when he posted a live video of himself with six other men while a lone female performed some sexual acts on them. He later posted an unrepentant message about the incident on Twitter which read, “If I could change I swear I would … I tried everything but I’m just so hood.”
In June 2017, he made comments on his preference for light-skinned girls over dark-skinned girls. This earned him so much backlash on Twitter forcing him to delete both his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

It was initially speculated that he had the gold grill removed because he was at risk of gum disease. However, just a week after taking the gold teeth out, the rapper posted two videos on Instagram showing a new diamond grill added to his upper and bottom row teeth.
In early 2017, Kodak Black was linked with Danielle Bregoli, a 13-year old TV star who appeared in the music video for his song Everything 1k. Danielle, however, debunked the rumours and admitted that what she had with the rapper was only a working relationship.
In November 2017, few days after hinting on Instagram that he was ready to settle down, Kodak Black posted a video of himself and his girlfriend Cuban Doll goofing around in a supposed engagement. In the presumed engagement video, Black tossed a large stack of cash on the ground, took off one of his expensive rings and gave to her. In what appeared to be an acceptance, Cuban Doll picked up the cash and sprayed them on herself as she screamed, “I’m married to the money.”
