It seems every generation is bound to have a boy group that is adored around the globe. There was Westlife and Boys II Men, One Direction and now we have BTS. Of course, as a music fan, we are certainly not complaining. We simply just want to ensure great music is made, even if it is coming from prepubescent boys. Today’s popular boy group is however different from the ones before it. It bears the unique trait of being the first globally popular group that isn’t filled with Westerners. BTS is a South Korean boy group and perhaps the biggest evidence of the rise of Korean pop music in recent times. The group consists of 7 boys and its most popular member is Kim Tae-Hyung – who is more popularly known as V.
Kim Tae-Hyung’s Biography (Age)
Kim Tae-Hyung was born in Daegu, South Korea on the 30th of December, 1995. The South Korean pop star is the eldest child of the three (a younger brother and sister) children born to his parents, who were farmers. Due to his parents’ extremely busy life as farmers, Kim Tae-Hyung spent his formative years living with his grandparents.
Since he could imagine a future for himself, Kim had always aspired to be a professional singer. Right from elementary school, he began to picture himself on stage in front of thousands and millions of fans who want to hear him sing. Kim Tae-Hyung began his journey to stardom by taking saxophone lessons. In continuation of the pursuit of his dream, he attended Korean Arts High School and eventually graduated in 2014.
Even when you want something as big as being a global pop star, the breakthrough can come from doing something as simple as recording and releasing a song in commemoration of your graduation. That was the case for Kim Tae-Hyung and his friend, who is now a fellow BTS bandmate, Jimin. They recorded and released a remix of Old School Love ft Ed Sheeran on SoundCloud.
Kim Tae-Hyung made his debut as a member of the BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) or Bangtan Boys in 2013, June 13 to be exact on Mnet’s M Countdown. Since he joined the group, BTS has been a high flying music group.
In their debut year, the group won several New Artist of the Year awards. They released their debut album in 2013 and their second album, Wings, which was released in 2016 gave Kim Tae-Hyung and BTS their first Billboard 200 appearance, charting at number 26. Since then, the trend has been on the rise for the group. Several of their songs have been certified gold by the RIAA and they have won several awards. Their meteoric rise catapulted young Kim from a meek farmer’s boy to being an international pop star.
Outside of his group responsibilities, V has also had several solo projects. He has released covers for songs like Someone Like You by Adele and he is also an actor. He made his acting debut on the KBS2 historical drama, Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. He composed and sang the soundtrack of the film.
Kim Tae-Hyung’s music style has been described as a super soothing low baritone that is a key element of the BTS music identity. Outside of being one of the lead singers for the group, the pop star is also a writer and producer for some of BTS songs. He enjoys a lot of recognition and fan glorification due to his lead singer role and his charming looks. He has also been awarded the fifth class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit by the President of South Korea.
As a global superstar and member of an international group with almost a billion fans, Kim Tae-Hyung has been able to accrue a net worth of $8.3 million. It is a far cry from the farm life his parents raised him in.

Kim Tae-Hyung, as mentioned earlier is the eldest child of the three children born to his parents. He has a younger brother named Kim Jeong Gyu and a younger sister by the name Kim Eon Jin. All three were raised in the farm.
As a young man who is still growing, Kim Tae-Hyung has already reached more than average height at 5 feet 10 inches. He reportedly also weighs 58 kg. In years to come, it is expected that he will fill out some more especially when he begins to take his diet and exercise routines serious.
