We’ve heard many stories of adventurous children who began hiking, surfing, skiing and more of the like from a very young age. Kelly Slater was one of those adventurous little children but his interest was in surfing, with his first time on a surfboard being at a very young age.
Kelly Slater Bio & Age
Robert Kelly Slater, popularly known as the Michael Jordan of Surfing, was born in Florida, on the 11th of February 1972. He is the second child of Stephen Slater and Judy Moriarity who have two other sons – Stephen and Sean Slater. The infamous surfer grew up in Cocoa Beach, Florida where his father owned and operated a bait and tackle shop very close to the ocean. As a child, on a daily basis, he would go out to the sea in search of big waves, this would normally happen after school. Sometimes, he would manage to sneak out for a round of surfing before dressing up for school.
Finally, the budding surfer’s hard work and dedication was rewarded and by the time he hit his teenage years, the rising star had already become popular as one of the best surfers at the time. In the long run, the surfing expert acquired an agent and in 1992, when he just turned 20, Slater bagged his first world title which gave him the reputation as the youngest surfer to ever win the championship. He also made a name as the oldest to win the same championship at the age of 39.
In addition to surfing, the Kelly Slater formed the music band known as The Surfers with the collaboration of friends and professional surfers, Peter King and Rob Machado. Their album titled ‘Songs from the Pipe’ was released in 1998.
Kelly is also a competent actor and is into film production as well. He has several films to his credit, some of the films include Bra Boys and Down the Barrel which he produced in 2007, The Ultimate Wave Tahiti which premiered in 2010, and Waveriders which was released in 2008.
You can add philanthropy to the list of his seemingly endless endeavours; he has been a spokesperson and fundraiser for suicide prevention awareness and has participated in events such as Surfers Against Suicide.

Though Kelly Slater is currently unmarried he is in a relationship with designer and model Kalani Miller. Prior to his current relationship, the surfer had a girlfriend named Tamara but unfortunately, their relationship did not last but something good came out of that encounter, his daughter Taylor was born in 1996.
