Kate Mulgrew is an American actress known for her role on Orange Is The New Black, Warehouse 13 and Star Trek: Voyager. Kate started her acting career at a young age but got her big break when she was cast in Ryan’s Hope – a daytime soap opera. She has also appeared in The Ballad of Soapy Smith, A Time for Miracles, The Film Society, Absurd Person Singular and The Word. Kate has also bagged a few awards; notable among them are a Golden Globe Award, an Obie Award and a nomination for Primetime Emmy Award.

Bio, Age

Katherine Kiernan Maria Mulgrew was born in Dubuque, Iowa, the United States on the 29th of April 1955. She was born to Thomas James Mulgrew, a contractor and Joan Virginia, a painter and artist. The Mulgrew family is a large one with a total of eight children of which Kate is the oldest.

She attended the Wahlert High School in Dubuque, Iowa and with her mother’s support, she joined summer acting school at the age of 12. Although she was disqualified because of her age, Kate was successful in the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art audition at the age of 16. The young Kate proceeded to the Stella Alder Conservatory of Acting in conjunction with New York University, but she spent only one year before leaving to pursue an acting career.

Daughter

Kate had her first child out of wedlock and was forced to give up her daughter for adoption three days after delivery. As the years rolled by, the actress began a search for her and to achieve this feat, she employed the services of a private detective. Eventually, in 1998, after a 22-year-long search, her long-lost daughter contacted her through the telephone. Her daughter is identified as Danielle Gaudette and she earns a living as a yoga instructor. Danielle also confessed that she was also searching for her biological mother.

Since finding her daughter, the duo has become very close; Kate’s 2015 memoir titled Born With Teeth is a chronicle of her life as a single mother who had no other choice than to give her daughter up for adoption at the start of her career. It also described their reunion in 2001. The book’s title is in reference to the fact that Kate was born with neonatal teeth.
