Is Justice Smith Related To Will Smith? Who are His Parents?

Common surnames such as Smith and Jones can belong to multiple people but that does not make them related in any way. Despite their last name, the rising Hollywood star, Justice Smith is not related to Will Smith.

Also an actor, the younger Smith is best known to international audiences for his roles in The Thundermans (2014), the science fiction film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019). His filmography may not include many films yet but he has a great ambition and is definitely set for the stars.

Justice Smith – Biography

Justice Elio Smith was born in the year 1995 on 9th August, in the city of Angels, Los Angeles, California, the United States. He grew up in a large multi-ethnic family as the fifth of nine children.

Besides his family being a large one, it was also a highly competitive one, which the actor revealed an interview. Both of his parents are competitive singers, as such, they are somewhat critical to non-professionalism. For instance, Justice remembers when he sang in the presence of his folks as a small boy, his mother was always handy to correct him and teach him how to sing right. His father did not let him off either. Moreover, he competed with his siblings.

While it seemed difficult to show his potential then, he did learn how to sing on the right notes as well as imbibe the skills needed to become a successful singer. Though he did not grow up to become a singer, he was still artistic. Justice Smith was drawn to the world of cinema and theatre from an early age. From a very young age, he was already writing stories and scripts and so it wasn’t surprising that he ended up an actor. Smith attended the Orange County School of the Arts where he majored in acting and graduated in 2013. The actor has performed in shows around Orange County.

He appeared in an Apple commercial at the age of 15 and landed his first major acting gig in the crime film Trigger Finger. Following up, he featured in two episodes of Nickelodeon’s The Thunderman as Angus in 2014. Smith also appeared in two HBO documentary series, Masterclass, and VlogBrothers the same year.

His career-defining moment, however, came in 2015. Justice Smith had a supporting role in Paper Towns as Marcus “Radar” Lincoln alongside Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff. That one role shot him into the limelight and introduced him to new fans and movie lovers. It also opened the path to many other acclaimed roles for the actor. In 2016, he landed the lead role in the Netflix musical drama series The Get Down as Ezekiel “Zeke” Figuero.

Following the training and studies he undertook to look convincing on screen for his role in The Get Down, the actor credits the role with making him a better actor and more confident in his abilities.

Although the series wasn’t renewed for a second season, it premiered in August 2016 and concluded in April 2017, he was critically praised for insightful play, musical authenticity, and for bringing an unforgettable character to the screen. Other than the acclamations, the actor earned a berth in Forbes 2017 30 under 30 List. Justice Smith further appeared in the Off-Broadway stage production of Yen starring opposite Lucas Hedges, in New York.

Smith played the boyfriend of the lead character, Rhiannon in Every Day as Justin (2018). He followed it up with a major role as Franklin Webb in the sci-fi sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. In 2019, he was featured in a lead role in a live-action film based on the video game Pokémon: Detective Pikachu as Jim Goodman along with other famous cast members including Ryan Reynolds, and Rita Ora. He also appeared in the drama series All the Bright Places alongside Elle Fanning.

Is He Related To Will Smith?

It is common to find two or more people with the same last name who are not related biologically or even share a common ancestor. Many celebrities have often found themselves with the same last name tag but the name is where the relationship ends, some include – Matthew Perry and Tyler Perry; Drew Carey and Mariah Carey; Jennifer Hudson and Kate Hudson; Denzel Washington and Kerry Washington as well as Kristen Bell and Drake Bell. They all have nothing more than their surname, and maybe profession in common.

Justice Smith was not left out in the name tagging when he started becoming famous. He has often been mistaken as the son of American actor, rapper and comedian, Will Smith. The conjecture was further heightened when he appeared with Will Smith’s real son, Jaden Smith in The Get Down.

Nevertheless, the Pokémon: Detective Pikachu actor addressed the rumors and clarified the confusion on his Twitter account in 2016, where he told fans and all who cared to know that the Hollywood star is not his father.
