Julie is the eldest child of the Newmar family, born in LA California on the 16th of August 1933. Her father Don Newmar worked at LA City College as the Head of Department in Physical Education. Don was also a professional footballer, he played active football during the 1920s in the National Football League (NFL) with the  Los Angeles Buccaneers team.

On her own part, Julie’s mother Helen Newmar was a Swedish-French woman, working as a fashion designer under the professional name of Chalene but she later diversified into the field of real estate as an investor. Julie has two younger brothers – Peter Bruce Newmar and John A. Newmar. Notable among them is John who is an accomplished writer, winemaker, and epidemiologist.

A look at her educational background reveals that she attended John Marshall High School located in Los Angeles where she graduated from at age 15. Her career as a dancer took-off at an early stage of her life. Immediately after her high school graduation at the age of 15, the rising star was already a prima ballerina with the LA Opera.
