However, the truth is that not a lot athletes will ever achieve peak form in their various sports but the few who have, get fame as a reward for their hard work and Julie Kedzie can be counted among that lot. This woman was a mixed martial artist, who has had her fair share of wins and losses, read further as we reveal more about her.

Bio – Who Is Julie Kedzie?

Julie Kedzie was born on the 18th of March in 1981, in Chicago where she was also raised. She is the second child of her parents and has an elder sister named Jenny Raff. When they were kids (with Julie being just 5 years old), her father signed her and her sister up for classes in Tae Kwon Do. After a few years of growing up in Chicago, the family had to relocate because of her mother, who wanted to earn a Ph.D. in neurobiology from Indiana University. The move happened when Kedzie was twelve.

The high school she attended is not known, but for her first degree, she followed in her mother’s footsteps to attend Indiana University. She earned a degree in English Literature before proceeding to the University of Iowa to study for a Masters in Fine Arts.

Julie Kedzie struggled with Bulimia, an eating disorder, as a teenager; she has spoken of her ordeal which she says started a year after her parents went through a divorce. She was binging on food and throwing up right afterward. Julie is of the opinion that the prescription pills she was taking for acne caused her to become depressed and increased her anxiety and then her eating disorder. Thanks to her sister, she was able to go to therapy and got better.

She has also credited mixed martial arts with helping her overcome her issues; she became attuned to the game after watching episodes of the Indiana based women Mixed Martial Arts, HOOKnSHOOT. After watching those episodes, she moved to California and while at California, she underwent training in the sport. Her training in Tae Kwan Do during her childhood also helped and in 2004 she came back to Indiana ready to have her first real fight.

The fight was on HOOKnSHOOT on the 19th of November 2005 and she won it. She has a black belt in the third degree in Tae Kwan Do, as well as being a specialist in the martial arts fight style of Brazillian Jui-Jitsu.

The next time she fought was on the 10th of February 2007 and it was a match against Gina Carano, who had not been defeated since she started to fight. Julie Kedzie lost the bout but because of how great both women fought, of all the matches that had been played that day, the fight between Carano and Kedzie was named the Fight of the Night. This match was historical as it was the first Women Mixed Martial Arts fight that was shown live.

In all her time as a fighter, she played a total of 29 games, where she lost thirteen of these games and won sixteen. She is considered a great in the world of Women Mixed Martial Arts; she retired in 2013 and has acted as a stunt double in a number of films. Kedzalsolos has a job as a commentator and interviewer for the promotion company for Women Mixed Martial Arts, Invicta Fighting Championships.
