Professionally known as Judy Greer, Judith Therese Evans is a U.S author, model, director, and actress who is popularly known for her outstanding performances as a character actor in several dramatic and comedic films. Her first major role as an actress was as Fern Mayo (Vylette) in the 1999 black comedy Jawbreaker, in that same year, she played a supporting role in the war film Three Kings.
Judy Greer’s Biography
Judy’s full name is Judith Therese Evans and she was born in Detroit, Michigan on the 20th of July 1975 to Mollie Ann and Rich Evans. Her mother who works in a hospital an as administrator was formerly a nun who was sent out of the convent after 8 years for wild behavior. Her dad is a mechanical engineer.
She grew up in Redford Township and Livonia and was raised a Roman Catholic. Greer is an alumnus of Churchill High School, Livonia and of DePaul University where she bagged a degree in Fine Arts in 1997. Due to several other actresses named Judy or Judi Evans, Greer adopted her mother’s maiden name for her stage name.
She began her acting career in 1998 and her first movie appearance was in a horror film titled Stricken, where she portrayed a college student who played a very fatal prank. In that same year, she landed a minor role in Doug Ellin’s romantic comedy, Kissing a Fool. This was followed by her first major role in 1999, where she played Fern Mayo (Vylette) – an introverted teenager who exposed her classmates’ murder of their friend, in Jawbreaker. The movie earned a cult following.
In 2000, she played Erin in What Women Want, the following year, she played alongside Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner. The next year, she was cast in an Untitled Ken Finkleman Project which is based on a Canadian show The Newsroom. She starred in the project alongside Stephen Colbert who played Finkleman and her, his sister.
Judy Greer has been a recurring face on Fox comedy series Arrested Development since 2003. She has played supporting roles in several other movies like What Women Want, The Village, 13 Going on 30, Elizabethtown, Adaptation, 27 Dresses, Love Happens, among others.
Her other movies include Carrie, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Get a Mac. In 2015, she co-starred in Ant-Man, Jurassic World and Tomorrowland. She would reprise her role the following year in the movie’s sequel War for the Planet of the Apes. Her most recent role is as Maggie Lang, in 2018 superhero film Ant-Man and the Wasp, followed by her role as Laurie Strode’s daughter, Karen Strode in the 2018 horror sequel movie Halloween.
Greer has also been slated to provide voice for the titular character, Luna, in the animated television series Let’s Go Luna!, which is scheduled to premiere in November 2018. Her outstanding performances have earned her several nominations for which she has won some of the awards like the John Cassavetes Award. In 2014, she authored a memoir titled “I Don’t Know What You Know Me From” in which she narrated her journey from Detriot to Hollywood.
