Ice hockey has so far proven to be a sport for no weakling as it is a game that requires precision, skill, strength, and speed. This brings to mind the person of Jonathan Toews who at the young age of twenty had risen to be a captain with the Chicago Blackhawks. This feat was truly remarkable because, at the time, he was the youngest to have achieved such a feat.
Toews has over time proven to be good at what he does, leading his team to victory, winning championship trophies such as the Stanley Cup champion in 2010 and 2013, and making it to the Winter Olympics of 2010, World Junior all-star team of 2007, and much more.
Jonathan Toews’ Biography
Jonathan Bryan Toews first made his entrance into the world on April 29, 1988, in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada, and into the family of the Toews. His father Bryan Toews worked at the University of Manitoba as an electrician, while his mom Andree’Gilbert who is of French origin was a managing director and finance expert for a credit union in Winnipeg domain before retiring to supervise Jonathan’s media affairs.
His ancestry is part English and part French and thanks to his mother Andree Gilbert, Jonathan is fluent in both English and French. The young lad schooled in Shattuck Saint Mary’s and the University of North Dakota where he and his brother, David played ice-hockey. He played in amateur leagues from 2003 creating impressive records and winning awards until he declared for the 2006 NHL draft and was picked by the Chicago Blackhawks. This marked the beginning of Toews journey to professional major league Ice hockey.
On the 16th of May 2007, Jonathan Toews put pen to paper on his very first professional deal with the Chicago Blackhawks which was to last for 3 years. He had an excellent first season and scored a nomination as NHL Rookie of the Year and for the Calder Memorial Trophy. The following season in 2008, he got a major boost and was named the captain of the team, making him the second youngest captain in National Hockey League’s (NHL) history after Sidney Crosby.
Over time, he has been awarded different trophies ranging from the Stanley cup award three times in 2010, 2013 and 2015; to being named the best forward in the 2014 winter Olympics; and in 2017, he was chosen as one of NHL’s greatest players. As captain, he took the team to many victories so that by the time his contract was to expire in 2009, a contract extension was awaiting his signature. Having extended his contract twice, Jonathan Toews salary currently runs into 13.8 million per annum. His estimated net worth as at 2018 was rounded up to a clean $16 million, which is not just proceeds from his hockey career but also from endorsement deals with notable organizations.
Beyond the NHL, Toews also represents his country’s national team Canada in Ice hockey competitions. In 2005, he led the team to victory at the under 17 hockey challenge where they won a gold medal.
Outside of the hockey world, the champ is also involved with the Kitchen Community, an organization that helps build gardens in schools, introducing young minds to growing their own food and promoting community involvement. When our dear Jonathan isn’t playing ice hockey or gardening, he’s seen spending time outdoors fishing with family.
Is Lindsey Vecchione His Wife or Girlfriend?
To the best of our knowledge, Jonathan Toews is not married but he is not one to philander too. He is currently in a relationship with Lindsey Vecchione, a model who was born on the 9th of July 1987. She is a native of Chicago and is also a sports enthusiast especially when it has to do with the Chicago Blackhawks where her beloved plies his trade.
Her modeling career has seen her work with big brands like Playboy. With her beautiful smile and head-turning body, she tried her luck in the Miss Illinois (2009) but did not win the crown. For now, all seem to be well and lovey-dovey in the couple’s world and there’s no hint of an issue.
Before he got involved with Lindsey, Jonathan Toews was formerly with Gabrielle Velasquez who was equally a model.
Jonathan’s younger brother, David Toews is both a fisherman and an ice hockey player. He attended the same school with his brother – Shattuck Saint-Mary and the University of North Dakota. David also played ice hockey professionally in 2008 after being drafted by the New York Islanders. However, this was short-lived as it ended in 2013.
The handsome lad had been given to eating right and exercise well from a young age. He stands tall at 6 ft. 2 inches or simply put 188 cm tall.
