In a few years, the National Basketball Association (NBA) will be populated by players we knew nothing of decades ago. However, if you are a fan of the NBA and followed the 2017 NBA draft, you are more than likely to be familiar with Jonathan Isaac, a budding star from the Florida State Seminoles who now plays for the Orlando Magic.

Jonathan Isaac’s romance with this handball game started during his high school days. He first played at the Barron Collier High School in Naples, Florida. This was during his freshman and sophomore years. He left Barron for the International School of Broward located in Hollywood, Florida. He had his junior and senior high school basketball career at Broward but would later school at IMG Academy. Isaac accomplished quite a lot as a high school basketballer. Among other things, record holds that he was able to average 17.6 points and 10 rebounds while leading the IMG Academy to a fine 21-10 record.
Beyond his skills and talent, the growth sprout he experienced throughout his high school career went a long way in setting him apart from other ballers. This made it possible for him to become a combo forward, a position he thrived at. In view of his ability in the court, it wasn’t a surprise he got rated as a five-star recruit in addition to being ranked as the 12th best player in the Class of 2016 by ESPN.
Despite confirming that he was going to commit to Florida State after his senior year of high school ended, on February 5, 2016, he announced his intention of entering the 2016 NBA Draft as the first American postgraduate to jump directly from high school to the NBA draft since 2005. However, just four days after the announcement, Isaac changed his mind and reaffirmed his commitment to play for Florida State for the 2016-2017 season.
Jonathan spent one year in Florida State before announcing his intentions to forgo his final three years of collegiate eligibility and enter the 2017 NBA Draft. On 22 June 2017, he was selected with the sixth overall pick by the Orlando Magic.
Jonathan Isaac is one of six children born to his mother, Jackie Allen. Isaac is the fourth child, with two older brothers, one older sister and two younger brothers in his family. The basketballer is of Puerto Rican descent on his mother’s side of the family and is eligible to play for the Puerto Rican National team. This highly sought prospect has been courted by the Puerto Rican team and has expressed his interest in playing for the Puerto Rican team if his friend, Maurice Harkless of the Portland Trailblazers asks him to play for the team.
Jonathan Isaac has racked up some impressive numbers as a basketballer. Starting from high school, Jonathan averaged 17 points per game and 10 rebounds. It was an impressive record he carried into his college career. In the second game of his college debut season, he recorded 20 points. Later, he recorded his first double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, earning the ACC Freshman of the Week Award for his performances. Multiple times over the course of the season, Jonathan Isaac scored over 20 points in a game, to the point he was considered a team leader alongside his fellow prospects and teammates, Dwayne Bacon and Xavier Rathan-Mayes.
Unfortunately, during his first and only season at the college basketball level, Jonathan did not win any tournament. He scored just 25 points in two games he played in the NCAA Tournament. At the conclusion of the season, he was named to the All-ACC Freshman team of 2017.
Jonathan hasn’t been able to replicate his high school and college performances in the NBA due to injuries. He missed 55 games in his rookie year and suffered a right ankle sprain in 10 minutes of the Magic’s first pre-season game of the 2018-19 NBA season. His NBA career stat currently stands at 27 games played, he started 10 of them with an average of 19.9 minutes per game. He has an average of 5.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
