Here, we are going to look at his bio, family, net worth and some interesting quick facts about the ‘homicide hunter.’
Bio of Joe Kenda
Joe whose full named is Joseph Patrick Kenda was born on the 14th day of November 1946 in Pittsburgh, western Pennsylvania and grew up in the town of Herminie still in western Pennsylvania, southeast of Pittsburgh where he was born. He comes from a family whose male members were predominantly coal miners. His father, uncle and grandfather were all coal miners. Sadly, his grandfather died in a coal mine accident in 1933.
Joe Kenda was said to have a penchant for solving and unravelling crime cases from a very early age, especially when it had to do with a murder. At his young age, it was more of a fascination, he probably didn’t know he would later make a career out of it in life.
The detective had his formal education at Greensburg Central Catholic High School and graduated in the year 1964. After graduation, he proceeded to study at the University of Pittsburgh where he studied political science and earned a BA before advancing to study international relations for his master’s degree at Ohio State University. He graduated from there in the year 1970 and was set to pursue a career in the Foreign Services but quashed the idea after a classified briefing with the Central Intelligence Agency left nothing to be desired of him in working with the Foreign Services. Before all these and immediately after his college education, he got married to his wife- Kathleen “Kathy” Mohler in 1967 whom he had earlier met during their high school days.
Having lost interest in the Foreign Services, Joe got busy working in his father’s trucking business before deciding to relocate to Colorado Springs in 1973 with his family. In Colorado Springs, he found just the right profession which his childhood fascination and interest was just suited for- unravelling and solving crimes, especially homicides. Thus, Joe Kenda joined the Colorado Springs police department.
In the police department, he was quoted as saying that he loved the work, little wonder why in the course of his career, he was able to solve a record number of 356 homicide cases with a 92% closure rate out of a total number of 387 investigated homicide cases. He attributed his high success rate at resolving homicide cases to mainly having the ability to tell when people were lying and being a ‘good student of nature.’
Detective Joe retired in 1996 after series of complaints his wife made to him about her having the apprehension that he would be murdered in the course of doing his job.
