Jimmy Page isn’t one of those musicians who pursued one passion in the entertainment world, he is an all-rounder. The OBE recipient is the son of James Patrick Page, an industrial personnel manager and Irish mother Patricia Elizabeth Gaffikin, who worked as a doctor’s secretary. He was born originally with the name James Patrick Page on the 9th of January 1944, in Heston, in Middlesex, England. When he was eight, the guitarist moved to Feltham with his family, after which they relocated to Miles Road and to Epsom in Surrey, where he got his first guitar.
Jimmy started playing the instrument at age 12 and later enrolled in Kingston for a few guitar lessons. Page, who largely taught himself guitar, learned his first chord from a fellow student but his decision to take up the guitar was inspired by Elvis Presley’s song “Baby Let’s Play House” while his early influences were renowned American guitarists – James Edward Burton and Scotty Moore who died in 2016.
