The name Jesse Carmichael may not immediately ring a bell to many music lovers but the American pianist and guitarist has made a huge contribution to the music industry as part of hit pop-rock band, Maroon 5. In addition to playing alongside the Adam Levine-led band, Carmichael has involved himself with other projects chiefly his 1863 solo project, as well as making short films.
Jesse Carmichael Bio
Carmichael was born Jesse Royal Carmichael on the 2nd of April 1979 in Boulder, Colorado. Jesse inherited his artistic side from his father Bob Carmichael who is a photographer. He sometimes takes photographs of the Maroon 5 during their tours. One of Jesse’s sisters followed in their father’s footsteps to become a photographer. He has a younger sister named Annie.
His family later relocated to Los Angeles, California where he would come to attend Brentwood High School. At the school, Carmichael took a liking for musical instruments and began learning to play the guitar. Soon, his love for music made him friends with schoolmates Adam Levine as well as Mickey Madden, and Ryan Dusick. The young boys then decided to form a rockband they named Kara’s Flowers – after a girl in their school which they had a collective crush on.
The band started off by playing around LA. One day while they were performing at a beach in Malibu, they caught the attention of independent producer Tommy Allen who would help to get them a record deal with Reprise Records. The band generated a lot of buzz around LA and released their debut album The Fourth World in 1997, however, the album was a huge failure for the band and the label managing to sell only 5,000 copies. Six months into their contract, the label dropped them. Carmichael and his boys were hugely disappointed that they thought of splitting up.
After high school graduation, Carmichael and Levine proceeded to Five Towns College in Long Island, New York. While Carmichael began learning to play the keyboard in college, he and Levine became hugely influenced by the urban style of music surrounding them. Two years later, they birthed a new idea of what they wanted their band to be like and called up their bandmates in Kara Flowers to form Maroon 5 in 2001. They included guitarist James Valentine as part of the new band. Maroon 5 penned a deal with Octone Records and released their debut work Songs About Jane to huge success. The rest is history.
Jesse Carmichael took a break from Maroon 5 in 2012 to focus on a new passion – “music and the healing arts”. He returned in 2014 and has since remained with the band.
His Net Worth
Maroon 5 has been hugely successful, breaking Billboard records and selling over 80 million records worldwide. As one of the founding members of the band, Carmichael earns hugely from the band’s success. His personal net worth is estimated at over $6 million.
