Currently working for a Disney subsidiary, ESPN, Jemele is no doubt on the list of top female sports journalists among which include the likes of Erin Jill Andrews, a former co-host of College GameDay on ESPN and Hannah Storm. Jemele Hill’s Biography

Born as Jemele Juanita Hill in the month of December 1975, Jemele Hill is a well-known sports anchor and reporter working with Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN). She was born and raised in Detroit and she graduated from the Michigan State University. Raised by her single mother, Jemele is of African American ethnicity, she grew up as a tomboy nevertheless. In school, she made good grades and participated well in school sports like baseball but she became more interested in writing about sports while in high school at Samuel C. Mumford High School located on the near-northwest side of Detroit.

Jemele’s career as a sports writer began with the Raleigh News & Observer, where she served as a general assignment sports writer. After working with them for about 18 months, she joined Detroit Free Press, then moved to Orlando Sentinel where she worked as a columnist before finally settling with the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) as its national columnist. Her role model was Gary Smith, a foremost American sportswriter best known for his lengthy human interest stories in Sports Illustrated.

Since Jemele joined the ESPN in November 2006, she has made several appearances on most ESPN programmes like SportsCenter, Outside the Lines, ESPN First Take, and The Sports Reporters. She even co-hosted the channel’s prominent television show, His & Hers and as at 2018, she serves as a journalist for ESPN’s website The Undefeated. 

Why was She Suspended by ESPN? 

Alongside her poise and good deportment, Jemele Hill is also known for being outspoken.  Although this is against her profession as a journalist, Jemele is one of such people who would always speak their mind and damn the consequences. Jemele has severally been suspended for several of her controversial comments. In October 2017 for instance, she was suspended by the ESPN after she reportedly faulted the company’s social media policy by replying the Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones‘ comment and allegedly calling for an N.F.L. boycott.

Jerry Jones who is a foremost American businessman and the owner of the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys said during one of his game that he would bench any players who “disrespect the flag,” and in a reply to his comment, Hills wrote: “Change happens when advertisers are impacted. If you feel strongly about JJ’s statement, boycott his advertisers.”

This is not the first time Jemele Hill got herself and her employer into trouble for her comments. On September 12, 2017, she was severely attacked by the American government for her Tweets on SportsCenter where she referred to President Donald Trump as a “White Supremacist”. In her tweet which was posted shortly after she retweeted an article about musician Kid Rock, Jemele said: “Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/other white supremacists.” She went further to describe him as unfit for any leadership post talk more of a presidential seat.

In 2008, Jemele Hill received her first suspension after she compared rooting for the Boston Celtics instead of the Pistons to “saying Hitler was a victim” during the 2008 NBA Playoffs.

She opined that rooting for the Celtics is tantamount to saying Hitler was a victim. She added that It’s like hoping Gorbachev would get to the blinking red button before Reagan. She ended by saying “Deserving or not, I still hate the Celtics.” Although she later apologized for the comment, she was served a one-week suspension by the ESPN.

Jemele Hill’s Husband or Boyfriend

Jemele is not yet married and she tries to keep her personal life private, however, there are rumors about her dating several men. According to some sources, beautiful Jamele with a good height of 5 feet 8 inches dated Ray Lewis, who was her co-worker. She is also seen hanging out with Idris Elba an English actor and musician.

Recently, she posted a picture of herself and another guy on her Instagram page and although she has chosen to keep his identity from the public, sources say he is known on social media as ‘Ol’ Boy’.
