1. She Sees Mountain Climbing as Her Biggest Achievement

Hiking is a very common hobby amongst models, but Jaylene Cook sees it as a very big achievement. She made it clear how she felt climbing Mount Taranaki in 2017. This was what she posted on her Instagram page on reaching the peak of the mountain:

“WE DID IT! This was BY FAR the hardest thing I have ever done! Both mentally and physically. Two minutes out of the car park I was already hurting, sweating and ready to turn back. But it’s amazing what you can accomplish with the encouragement and support of your partner! I could not have done this without you babe @thejoshshaw!.

This climb has forever changed me. I proved just how far I could push myself and I am truly proud of my accomplishment. This mountain was steep, rugged, ever-changing and just pure brutal! Safe to say, I will never do it again.”

Though she vowed not to do it again, it was a great achievement for her.

2. Jaylene Cook Climbed Mt. Taranaki as a Tribute to Her Cousin

Everyone has emotional reasons for doing things and Jaylene Cook is not an exception. It could be a Vin Diesel taking a long ride for his buddy, Paul Walker. Or a Brenton Tarrant shooting up a mosque for the loss of a loved one. There are emotional motives behind certain actions.

Jaylene Cook completed the 9000 ft hike to pay tribute to her late cousin, Arthur Hamilton Ambury. Arthur died trying to save another climber that slipped. It suffices to say that such an act of bravery deserves that level of tribute. Expressing her tribute, she said:

“It gave me an overwhelming sense of achievement, being able to complete the journey that he was never able to finish…”

3. She Became Famous Stripping Naked on Mount Taranaki

Jaylene Cook got a lot of media attention for taking a nude picture on Mount Taranaki. She joined the likes of Kim Kardashian, who don’t mind going sharing their naked pictures on social media.

The criticisms and plaudits combined raised her famous rank. She became very popular on Instagram due to that incident. As a matter of fact, the picture had over 30K likes and her followership on Instagram skyrocketed to over 400K within that period.

The major reason she was criticized was that the mountain was seen as sacred by the Māori people. It was majorly used as a cemetery for the Māori ancestors, according to Māori mythology. They even believe is a sacrilege to climb to the peak of the mountain, except for ceremonial purposes. So to them, Jaylene Cook desecrated everything they held sacred. Jaylene Cook would not have any of that. For her, it’s about fun and freedom. She is really daring.
