James Marsters has enjoyed good success in his various endeavors in the entertainment industry. Famed as an American singer, he has also thrived as a voice-over artist and as an actor popularly known for his epic role as a notorious vampire on the hit American TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 

Clearly a man of parts, he is also revered for being the lead singer of the defunct rock band – Ghost of the Robot, before going on to achieve profound success as a solo artist, releasing three albums titled Civilized Man, Like A Waterfall, and Murphy’s Law respectively in 2004, 2007, and 2011.

James Wesley Marsters was born on the 20th of August 1962 in Greenville, California. Growing up, he was raised alongside his two siblings (Paul and Susan) in Modesto, California. As a kid, Marsters showed great potential at acting with him going on to play the role of Eeyore in a play titled Winnie the Pooh in fourth grade. He had his high school education at Grace M Davis High School where he was a vibrant member of the theatre club which led to him appearing in several school plays and musicals. Upon graduation from High School in 1980, he attended the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California.

In 1987, he moved to Chicago where he bagged his first ever acting role at the Goodman Theatre with him playing the character of Ferdinand in the play, The Tempest. From 1987 to 1990, Marsters appeared on stage for several theatres playing various roles with the most prominent being his role as Robespierre in the 1989 drama, Incorruptible: The Life, Death, and Dreams of Maximilian de Robespierre. Following the recognition he gained through his role as Robespierre, he moved to Seattle in 1990 where he set up his own theatre alongside Liane Davidson and Greg Musick; they named it the New Mercury Theatre.

His first acting role on television finally came in the year 1992. It saw him appear as a bell boy and as a church minister on two episodes of the American comedy TV drama series, Northern Exposure. Half a decade later (in 1997), James Marsters got his big break as he was cast to play Spike on the American supernatural drama television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Initially, producers wanted him to take part in only a few episodes of the series. But then, fans fell in love with his character, making it difficult for Spike to be written off the show.

Since his big break, James Marsters has been on a constant rise, appearing in several movies and TV series like Andromeda, Cool Money, Hawaii Five-O and most notably, Syfy’s Caprica in which he played the character of Barnabas Greeley.

James Marsters is currently married to the beautiful actress and director, Patricia Jasmin Rahman. According to him, their paths first crossed in 2004 when he met her backstage after his band (Ghost of The Robot) finished performing at a concert in Amsterdam. He approached her, gave her his number, and took hers on a piece of paper which unfortunately got lost.

Unknown to him, she took down the wrong digits and it took her six months to get the right combination. After dating for six years, he proposed to her on the 21st of May 2010, with them eventually tying the knot on the 14th of January 2011. It was a private ceremony held in Los Angeles and attended by close friends and family members only.

James is a father to a son who goes by the name of Sullivan Marsters. Sullivan was born in 1996 by James Marsters ex-wife, Liane Davidson. He married her in 1989 and they divorced in 1997, a year after the birth of their son.
