Child prodigy Jackie Evancho has strongly proven that she has a voice way beyond her years. The classical crossover singer took the music industry by storm at the age of 10 when she emerged as runner-up in the 5th season of America’s Got Talent. In just a short time, Evancho has come to set many musical records. She is the youngest solo artist to go platinum in the United States and the youngest top-5 debut artist in UK history.

She appeared on the political radar in 2017 when she was honored by the presidency to perform the US national anthem at the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20th of the same year. Her first encounter with Trump was back in 2011 when the billionaire invited her to perform at Mar-A-Lago, his estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

Jackie Evancho has a younger sister named Rachel Evancho, however, it is her older transgender sister Juliet Evancho (pictured) who was born as a boy named Jacob Evancho that has gained more media attention. Juliet Evancho was born in 1998, making her two years older than Jackie. They grew up together alongside their other siblings Rachel and  Zachary who is now the only son of the Evancho family.

Juliet, when she was a boy (Jacob), struggled with gender identity and decided to become transgender at 17. In her interview with Teen Vogue, Jackie’s sister narrated how she gathered the family for a pool party and announced her transition from boy to girl. According to her words, their father Michael who had named her after his middle name took the news the hardest.

Before the big announcement, Juliet battled depression and had to see a therapist for two years. Jackie alongside other members of the Evancho family have become very supportive of Juliet. Following her performance at Trump’s January 2017 inauguration, she released a record containing three songs whose proceeds were donated to LGBT charities in support of her sister.

Jackie’s decision to perform at the inauguration despite Trump’s view on gay rights drew a lot of controversies. However, Jackie stated that her decision was completely apolitical. Juliet also jumped on her sister’s defense saying she was singing for her country and not for Trump.

When Juliet didn’t attend the inauguration, many speculated it was as a way of protesting Trump’s views on gay rights, however, TMZ later clarified that she missed supporting her sister on the big day because she had to undergo a gender reassignment surgery. Juliet has advocated for the federal law to allow transgender people to use bathrooms designated for the gender that they identify with and has been supported by her father, Michael.
