Is NF Related To Eminem and Who is a Better Rapper Between The Two?

In simple words, NF and Eminem are not related. Ever since NF came to the hip-hop scene, he has been pulling strings and getting the much-needed attention his music desires. Known for his “Eminem-soundalike” music and having other things in likeness with the ace Shady/Aftermath rapper, coupled with his album’s rating dragging the top spot on the chart, one would wonder if the two Caucasians are related or not. As you would see below, they have no familial ties.

The Only Link Between NF and Eminem is The U.S. State of Michigan

As earlier mentioned, NF is not related to Eminem. The only connection between the pair is the state of Michigan; NF was born in Gladwin, Michigan while Eminem grew up in Detroit, Michigan.

NF, whose birth name is Nathan John Feuerstein, was born on March 30, 1991; he is currently 33 years old. The rapper, songwriter, and singer graduated from Gladwin High School in 2009 and began his career at the Fine Art Festival organized by the Connection Church in Canton, Michigan.

As a child, NF had it rough as he was raised by his mum who was a single mother following his parents’ divorce. His father later took custody of him when his mother’s boyfriend constantly abused him. In 2009, he lost his dearest mother as a result of a drug overdose. He was touched by her death and later dedicated a song to her memory.

NF Began Making Music as a Child

NF fell in love with rap as a child and has been practicing the art right from his childhood days. He recalled how he used to record on a karaoke machine, an old way of recording music that is no longer in vogue. Apparently, the whole process of making music is not strange to him when he had the platform to record real-time.

NF released his debut studio album titled Moment under his real name on November 29, 2010. He signed to Capitol Christian Music Group in 2014 and released a self-titled EP with Capitol CMG that same year. In all, NF has released five studio albums:

  • Moments (2010)
  • Mansion (2015)
  • Therapy Session (2016)
  • Perception (2017)
  • The Search (2019).

NF’s fourth album, Perception, was able to climb to the top of the chart for the first time in his career. In no distant time (less than two years), another project of his fought its way to the top again for the second time, dethroning Chance the Rapper and Ed Sheeran along the way. In 2021, he released a mixtape titled Clouds.

Eminem Had a Similar Childhood To NF

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is a legendary American rapper, record producer, and songwriter. He is known to be not just one of the best white rappers but one of the greatest rappers the world has ever produced. He is also one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 220 million records in estimated worldwide sales.

Now aged 51, Eminem like NF, had a very rough childhood as he was also raised by a single parent. He and his mother shuttled between Missouri and Detroit, living from one house to another and staying with family members. As a child, Em enjoyed storytelling before later discovering hip-hop thanks to one of his uncles. The young man went on to form a rap group with his friends in high school, and they competed among themselves. Eminem later dropped out of school but never stopped rapping.

Eminem Has Won Multiple Grammys

Eminem worked hard to sharpen his rap skills and put them to work; this has really paid off for him in the long run as his albums and singles have topped the chart many times. In 1996, he released his debut album titled Infinite. While the album didn’t do quite well, his subsequent effort titled The Slim Shady LP, released in 1999 after signing to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment, enjoyed massive success and brought him significant popularity. The album later won him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

The Slim Shady LP is not the only Grammy Award-winning album for Eminem. The Marshall Mathers LP, released in 2000, and The Eminem Show, released in 2002, won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Also, Relapse (in 2009), Recovery (in 2010), and The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (in 2013) all won Grammy Awards.

Why Do Fans Think NF and Eminem Are Related?

Having known who NF and Eminem are, it is pertinent to know why people feel they may be related. For many reasons, fans and lovers of these two artists have had to ponder over the fact that they might be related. These reasons are as follows:

1. NF Has The Same Name As Eminem’s Half Brother

It is a fact that NF (Nathan Feuerstein) and Eminem’s half-brother (Nathan Mathers) are namesakes. The fact that they are namesakes, however, does not make NF related to Eminem. The whole confusion stems from the fact that Eminem’s brother is a musician who had released a couple of songs in the past that were not successful. For some reason, people think he has been able to make a comeback as NF.

2. Their Resemblance

Many believe NF and Eminem have some degree of facial resemblance, though some people do not agree with that school of thought. In addition to that, some people noticed the resemblance in their logo, their dress code/fashion sense, and even their stage actions.

The similarity can also be established from the sound of their music, lyrics, delivery style, and the ideology of their songs in general. Listening to NF’s album, it is easy to tell that he uses similar polysyllabic rhymes as Eminem does in his songs.

Why Does NF Sound Like Eminem?

NF admitted that he is an ardent fan of Eminem and a keen follower. According to him, he listened to Eminem’s albums for six good years. It is no wonder that he may have subconsciously modeled everything he does in relation to music to the famous rapper.

Do NF and Eminem Get Along?

When NF came to the scene in 2010, there were lots of comparisons between him and the rap legend, which did not seem to go down well with Eminem. Naturally, as humans, we don’t like being challenged within a niche we dominate; it is a natural phenomenon.

To make it conspicuous that he is not too pleased with the comparisons, Eminem, in his song titled The Ringer, shaded NF, leaving fans with no choice but to believe that he did not care much for the young rapper.

On the other hand, NF has replied that he doesn’t think he would respond to what he doesn’t have proof on, adding that Eminem is a great rapper he respects so much and holds in high esteem. NF has shown in all manners that Eminem is his role model and mentor in the hip-hop world.

Meanwhile, at the level at which Eminem is operating right now, and the achievements he has made so far, there is no point mentioning that it will take a lot for NF to match up. Because of this, it would be better for the culture if Eminem embraces NF and sees him as a prodigy. He should consider himself lucky to have someone already following his footprints and can take over and fill the vacuum when he steps aside from music. For as it were, NF is no match to Eminem and may not be when it comes to rap, but can be groomed to carry on with Eminem’s legacies in the hip hop world.
