They have remained teammates, this time playing for Barcelona football club.

Lucy Bronze and Keira Have Played in Many Leagues Together

Lucy Bronze is British-Portuguese born on October 28, 1991. She began playing football as an infant alongside his brother and his friends. This toughened her up as she would often play with boys. During her time at the Duchess’s Community High School in Alnwick, Lucy played as a midfielder and served as the school football team captain.

After high school, Lucy immigrated to the United States for college, enrolling in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she played for the Tar Heels women’s soccer team. A year later, she returned to England and continued her degree in Sports Science at Leeds Metropolitan University, where she graduated in 2013.

In November 2014, Lucy joined Manchester City, the same year Keira joined the team. Keira attended St Bede’s College in Manchester while playing for Manchester City club. Before then, she played for Blackburn Rovers in their age-group teams from under 12 to under 17. Keira Walsh and Lucy Bronze remained in Manchester City from 2014 to 2022, and during this time, Walsh won all three women’s domestic titles (2016 FA WSL, 2016 WSL Cup, 2016–17 FA Women’s Cup).

After their contracts with Manchester City expired, the teammates signed another one with Barcelona. Keira set a record with her transfer fees that hover around £400,000 (up to €470,000, including bonuses). Her first season with the Barcelona side has seen her rub shoulders with top female football players across the globe.

Aside from clubs, Keira and Lucy have also played internationally, representing their England squad. Keira has played at different levels for the England national team. Being the older player, Lucy Bronze joined the national team first before Keira but they have won many titles together. Lucy’s records show she has won three UEFA Women’s Champions League titles during her stint with Lyon, three FA Women’s Super League titles with Liverpool and Manchester City, and the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 with her England teammates.

Lucy and Keira were also part of the Great Britain women’s football team at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021. The team lost to their Australian opponents during the quarterfinals. According to former England manager Phil Neville, “Walsh and Bronze together in central midfield are so brave and so good at winning the ball, and then keeping it, under pressure. They are colossi.” The two are so good together, little wonder why the speculations about their romantic side have been a hot topic for discussion among fans.

Their Barcelona Move Didn’t Go As Planned At First

Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh joined the Spanish club during the 2022 summer from Manchester City but their debut match wasn’t forthcoming as expected. The striking referees caused the delay in the Spanish women’s top flight. The referees embarked on a strike due to what they felt were unfavorable pay and working conditions. Lucy and Keira who joined Barcelona after winning the women’s Euro in 2022 had to wait a little longer to make their debut appearance for the team.

Barcelona was due to play Levante when the strike hindered their game but the players were made to turn up for the game nonetheless. They went through the rigorous warm-up routines as usual and would also line up for the game, knowing the absence of officials meant the match couldn’t hold. Atletico Madrid posted pictures of their players warming up right before their match against Real Sociedad was abandoned.

Spain’s female referees released a statement on September 8, 2022, stating their reasons for the strike which include the pay and working conditions they are subjected to. Barcelona football club was due to play their first game of the season on Sunday, September 11, but the strike hindered it. ‘We want to get back on the field, but under the appropriate conditions,’ part of the referees’ statement read.

When they finally got their day on the field, Keira and Lucy left a good impression. Lucy Bronze scored her first goal for the team on November 27, 2022, in a match against Atlético Madrid. Her second goal came in the next game in the 89th minute. Keira on her own part ended the year with several spots on different women’s football rankings, including the Top 10 of the list of the 100 Best Female Footballers.
