Who Is Hurray For The Riff Raff?
Notwithstanding the fact that it is a band, it happens to be the brainchild of Alynda Segarra who is also the main drive force behind the group. She is an American singer and songwriter, best known for being the lead vocalist of the New Orleans-based band.
Alynda was born in New York and was raised by her aunt named Nereida in the Bronx, New York. She is the daughter of the former Deputy Mayor of New York Ninfa Segarra and her husband. Alynda possesses an American nationality and has Puerto Rican ancestry.
While she was growing, the rock star started attending hardcore punk shows at the ABC Bo Rio situated in New York City. It was there that she developed an interest in becoming a rock and roll musician, a passion which has paid off so well and has brought her huge fame.
When she was 17 years old, Segarra decided to run away from home, hence, she began hopping freight trains crossing North America. After a while, she had a small stint with Dead Man Street Orchestra in a bid to hone her musical skills. Later, in the same year 2007, Hurray for the Riff Raff was birthed and Alynda and the band went on to release her first Extended Play titled Crossing the Rubicon.
The band also released two other albums It Doesn’t Mean I Don’t Love You (2008) and Young Blood Blues (2010), before signing up with the European record label called Loose Music. With the record label, the group launched their self-titled debut album in March 2011. Following the release of their debut album, their songs started topping UK Hot Country charts and also received airplay on BBC 6 Music as well as BBC Radio 2, among others. The group was equally featured on the British daily newspaper, The Times.
The following year, Hurray For The Riff Raff started making waves as they were invited to perform at the 2012 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. After that, they launched their next album entitled Look Out Mama. They followed it up with yet another hit album My Dearest Darkest Neighbor in 2013. Their other albums include Small Town Heroes (2014) and The Navigator (2017), which are both commercially and critically successful.
While the group continued to wow their many fans with their outstanding folk and country musical style, they became even more popular when they were listed among the groups that would perform at the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. This would give their fans the opportunity to witness their beloved band perform once again at Indio, California.
