Hilary Farr was born as Hilary Elizabeth Labow on August 31, 1951, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. However, she was raised in London, the United Kingdom by her parents. As a young girl, Farr was interested in many things, among them athletics, theater, and home designing. She came to love the latter as a result of influence from her mom whom she watched and helped as she designed their childhood home.
Farr played netball, (a basketball alternative for women especially in the UK). Additionally, she is an accomplished diver and swimmer. She began her career as an interior designer, relocating to Los Angeles where she started buying and renovating properties. Later, she studied an interior design course at Toronto’s Ryerson University.
To support her big picture in interior designing, Farr took part-time jobs which included designing TV and film sets. Her involvement with TV and film quickly went from designing to acting and production. Farr has been privileged to work with the likes of Ted Danson and producer Arthur Cohn in film production.

Farr has also appeared in stage productions. She had a lead role in a Broadway production of Run For Your Wife and got to work with the legendary Richard Gere in the London production of Grease.
