Upon her graduation, Hayley Kiyoko enrolled at Clive Davis School of Recorded Music at New York University where she studied for sometime before leaving to pursue her music career fulltime.
With regards to her career and how she started off, Hayley Kiyoko was discovered as a 5-year-old model when she went for a photo shoot with her friend. From this encounter, she began making appearances on commercials for various company products as well as being featured on the advert pages of newspapers.
She was still in middle school at this time which afforded her the opportunity to continue honing her skills in school plays. At this same time, Hayley was also honing her musical skills going for music lessons, writing her own songs, and releasing them to be sold in local music stores.
As Hayley Kiyoko got older, she formed a garage band in 2007 called Hede (named after her grandfather) and also had her father secure the services of an agent in hope of getting auditions for films. As she got older, her penchant for people of the same sex persisted even as she struggled with the fears of being rejected and facing criticism should she out.
While Alcroft struggled with the realities of being a gay woman, she understood and felt to a large extent the pains of what so many other young gay people in her shoes were passing through. Added to this, she was unable to express her feelings in her songs but after listening to I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry and Canadian Indie Pop duo of Tegan and Sara, she became bold and confident about who she really is and even regretted not coming out earlier than she did.
