Hannah Margaret Selleck can be described as a blue-blooded Hollywood royal. Born to famous parents Tom Selleck and Jillie Mack in Hollywood, California, she had the perfect recipe for a life of glitz and glam. However, soon after she was born, her dad acquired a ranch house on the outskirts of Los Angeles and the family had to relocate. Her parents had decided to shield her from Hollywood that she may enjoy a “normal” life.
Moving to the ranch house exposed the Sellecks’ to outdoor life. Her father, Tom Selleck took to avocado farming while Hannah fell in love with horse riding. Prior to their relocation, Tom Selleck had already learned the art of horse riding for his roles in a number of western movies such as The Sackettes (1979) and Quigley Down Under (1990). While the veteran Hollywood actor got involved in horse riding just for his movie roles, his daughter Hannah Selleck has gone ahead to make a career for herself as a proficient horse rider. This love between father and daughter for the steed culminated in their collaboration on a horse breeding business in Hidden Valley, California.
About Hannah Margaret Selleck’s Early Life and Career
Hannah Margaret Selleck was born on December 16, 1988. She is the daughter of iconic Hollywood actor and producer Tom Selleck, known for such TV roles as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. (1980–1988) and more recently as Commissioner Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods.
Her mother, Jillie Joan Mack is an English-born former actress/dancer. Hannah’s dad had actually met her mother Jillie Mack in London after watching her perform in the musical, Cats. The rest became history as they eventually got married and a year after, their daughter Hannah Selleck was born.
After Hannah’s arrival, the family moved from Hollywood to a ranch house in Thousand Oaks-Westlake Village, California. The ranch covers 65-acres of land, with a horse corral and a 20-acre avocado farm. It comes as no surprise that the young Hannah Margaret got interested in horse riding. Her love for horses dates back to when she was just a 4-year-old trying to learn horse riding on the back of a Shetland pony. This early experience made a great impact on the young Hannah and birthed a passionate interest for the 4-legged animal.
Hannah was also encouraged by her parents to explore other activities including ice skating, soccer, gymnastics and even ballet. However, her love for horses endured through her teenage years into adulthood. She has shown little or no interest in the glamorous Hollywood that her parents are part of but has made a career for herself as a world-class equestrian.
Even as a rising equestrian star, Hannah Selleck had time to attend the Loyola Marymount University where she majored in Communication. Upon graduation in 2011, she gave a shot at the corporate world. She interned at a public relations firm in Beverly Hills for 6 months, however, she didn’t like being indoors all day long and hence, she quit and returned to horse riding.
