Grant Imahara is widely known as a television host but actually studied electrical engineering and robotics during his college days. On his television show Myth Busters, he uses his electrical and robotics engineering skillset to design and build robots which were being made use of on the show.

Grant Imahara Biography (Age)

It was in Los Angeles, California and on the 23rd of October in 1970 that Grant Imahara was born. There isn’t much information on his early life but we do know he attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.

Although an engineer with huge talent, Grant always had a soft spot for screenplay and actually considered switching his majors with the intent of becoming a screenwriter. But his decision to switch majors changed when he decided to assist Professor Tomlinson Holman of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Imahara was fortunate to be hired immediately after graduation as an engineer for the popular Lucasfilm’s THX division but was soon moved into the visual effect division of the company once his immense ability was spotted. He worked at the Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) for well over nine years and was involved in so many blockbuster movies which included the Jurassic Park, Star Wars, and the Terminator just to name a few.

Over the course of his very impressive career, Imahara has been credited with so many feature films as a model maker. But it was his work in the movie Star Wars where he updated the fast aging R2-D2 robots for the Star Wars prequel trilogy that won him the most accolades.

He made the biggest move of his career so far when with the help of his former ILM colleague Linda Wolkovich (who is the associate producer of MythBusters) alongside another friend Jamie Hyneman, he got an invite to work for MythBusters to which he duly obliged. MythBusters had various teams that make up the entire company and Imahara was part of the Build team, he’s often jokingly referred to as the geek of his team.

Apart from his work at the MythBusters, Imahara also hosted the White Rabbit Project which is an original Netflix Series focused on investigations bordering on jailbreaks and heists. He hosted this show alongside his colleagues and friends Kari Byron and Tory Belleci.

Imahara is basically known for his work behind the scenes in movies but he has had occasional cameo appearances in series such as The Guild, BattleBots, and was also enlisted as a cast member and story writer of the short film Architects of Evil. Showing how far he has come, Imahara was profiled by the magazine IEEE Spectrum in an article titled “Grant Imahara: Debunker in The Box.”

It is a well-known fact that engineers are paid huge salaries; if you mix it up a bit and show a business inclination, you’d have something entirely different as did Imahara. He has amassed a quite impressive net worth of around $2 million. A major bulk of the amount came from the paycheques received for his services at MythBusters

Who’s His Wife?

Currently, Grant Imahara isn’t married but he became engaged in December 2016 when he proposed to his longtime girlfriend Jenifer Newman during her birthday party. Her guests got more of a show than they expected at the party when Grant presented a $20,000 1.56 Carat vintage diamond ring to her. His future wife Jennifer works as a costume designer and with a wedding just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if she decides to design her own wedding dress or pass the responsibility to someone else.
