Gerald Green has been a basketball lover since childhood but was unable to participate in the game until his sophomore year. Today, he is popular for playing with the Phoenix Suns and so far, he has made huge achievements in his professional basketball career and has become one of the top players in the NBA to reckon with. Here are more details about the renowned NBA player.

Who Is Gerald Green?

Born in the city of Houston, Texas, USA, on 26th of January, 1986, Gerald Green is a professional Basketball player for the National Basket Ball Association (NBA). He commenced playing in his sophomore year at Gulf Shores Academy High School in Houston, Texas, when he joined the junior University for J. Frank Dobie High School. He later transferred to Gulf Shores Academy for a repeat of his junior year, after he encountered some challenges with his previous high school. While at Golf Shore in his senior year, Green averaged 33 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocked shots per game. This made him the highest scorer of the  2005 McDonald’s All-American Game. The same year, the young player won the McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest after defeating future Duke player Josh McRoberts. He then joined the popular NBA club Boston Celtics and started playing for the team. In January 2006, he was selected by the Celtics for the NBA D-League. There, he served for two years and appeared in 32 games and averaged 11.8 minutes, 5.2 points, and 1.2 rebounds.

2007 was another successful year for Gerald green who successfully won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. The same year, he became part of the Minnesota Timberwolves, after he topped 33 points in a game held in Atlanta. However, at the second half of the year, he, along with other professional basketball players like Sebastian Telfair, Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Theo Ratliff, were traded for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Garnett. After playing for the Timberwolves for one year, Green moved to Houston Rockets in February 2008, then to Russia in 2009 where he played for the outside NBA team.

2011 marked a new beginning for Green who returned to the US and signed to play for the Los Angeles Lakers and D-Fenders for the NBA. A few months later, he signed with the Indiana Pacers and in 2013, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns where he played for two years until 2015 when he was signed to the Miami Heat and to the Boston Celtics on 27th of July, 2016. Currently, he is signed to the Houston Rockets. He returned to the franchise for a second stint on December 28, 2017, wherein Gerald Green was named the first player to make seven or more 3-pointers in consecutive games. This was after he scored 27 points in a 116–98 win over the Orlando Magic. As one of the stars in the NBA, Geral Green’s net worth is estimated to be $2 million.

What Happened to his Hand (Finger)?

Gerald had an accident while he was still in his sixth grade in high school. Wearing his mother’s class ring on his right ring finger, he made an attempt to jam on a makeshift hoop attached to a doorway and the ring got caught on a nail and it automatically ripped his finger to the bone. The finger was eventually amputated according to doctor’s recommendation. Speaking on the incident and how it affected his personality, Green said he had to deal with insecurity issues afterwards as his colleagues both in high school and during his career made jokes with it. He also revealed that he never wanted people to know about it because it makes him feel like an outsider. However, the accident did not push him into dropping out from his basketball career. After he was able to tolerate the pain and shame, Green returned to the court with a bandage-wrapped hand and although the amputated finger made it impossible for him to palm a ball, he still tries to make his shots as he keeps doing until today.
