Who Is Georgie Henley?
Georgie was born on the 9th of July 1995 to Helen Henley and Mike Henley in a little town in West Yorkshire named IIkley. Georgie attended Moorfield School before moving to Bradford Grammar School.
As a young school kid, Georgie was already a member of a local theatre drama group called the Upstagers. Her group performed stage plays such as Babushka: A Christmas Story, The Pied Piper to local audiences. Most definitely acting for the passion, little did Georgie realize she was unconsciously preparing herself for an opportunity on the big screen.
In search of little kids to feature in his new project, Pipa Hall, (Casting Director for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe) was in Georgie Henley’s town and after watching Georgie once, he was certain she should be given a chance.
Before she was given the role of Lucy, she had to go through an 18-month casting session. Georgie Henley owed her role in The Chronicles of Narnia to her drama teacher at Moorfield School who started the process of mentoring her.
At some point during the 18-month casting session, her parents became skeptical about letting their eight-year-old daughter become an actress, citing the fact that it could become a corrupting influence on her. The last of three daughters, Georgie recalls her older sisters (Rachel and Laura) doing their best to convince their parents to allow her to act.
There is the age-long debate about the superiority of stage actors over film actors. This may be because of the high concentration level needed to pull off a stage performance, whatever the case, Georgie Henley’s impressive performance in the Chronicles of Narnia seems to be a testament to the extra edge stage experience gives to a thespian.
Georgie finally made her debut in the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005 which until this day remains her biggest ever, the movie grossed over $745 million worldwide.
Georgie’s performance in the 2005 Chronicles of Narnia caused her role to be reprised in the upcoming sequels The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian in 2008 and also the sequel in 2010 The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
The Chronicles of Narnia sequel served as a platform for her to appear in more roles which included the Bradford Grammar School’s production “We Will Rock You” which was aired from 13th to the 16th of March in 2013.
