A humanitarian, social activist, model, writer, and filmmaker; the pulchritudinous Ethiopian Gelila Bekele, is a perfect blend of beauty, brains, and social responsibility. As a model, she has graced the covers of prominent magazines like Essence, Allure, and Marie Claire. She has continued to remain relevant and sort after in the fashion world.
Gelila Bekele has been lauded for her relentless efforts to tell the Ethiopian story the right way. Her goal is to showcase the rich cultural heritage of her people while also contributing her quota in the quest to enhance the standard of living of the Ethiopian people. To this effect, Gelila Bekele has written a book and also made a short film; with both works being critically acclaimed. She is also an advocate for women empowerment and emancipation. She was actively part of the Women’s March in Washington DC and has also continued to give to the education of Ethiopian girls. Gelila is a mother and a faithful spouse, making her (in my opinion) a superwoman whose character and achievements should be emulated by female youths all over the world.
The 31-year-old Ethiopian epitome of beauty was born on the 4th of September, 1986 in the beautiful city of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia and naturally, the cultural and commercial hub. It is believed she spent a bit of her childhood in Addis Ababa but eventually lived in Europe and America as a result of her modelling career. Not much is known about her educational background or qualifications but we know she began modelling professionally in 2006 at quite an early age of 20. This was made possible by a modelling agency called Ford Models, who noticed her modelling potential while she was still in Ethiopia and her exploits with them took her to Paris and New York.
Gelila has gone on to be featured in several premium magazines and has had endorsement deals with prominent brands like Levi’s, Diesel, Michael Kors, H&M, Tory Burch, Anna Sui, Pinko, L’oreal, Colgate, and Pantene. The supermodel is currently affiliated with the following modelling agencies: Model Management (New York), Premium Models (Paris) and W360 (New York).
She can also boast of some filmography credits. In 2009, she was featured alongside Dino Antoniou in a movie titled Full. As earlier stated, Gelila is a filmmaker and a certified one at that. She released her first and only film so far in 2015 and it is titled, Mai: Life is not Honey which is a short film addressing the global issue of lack of water.
In 2016, Gelila would go on to publish a book titled Guzo. The book is an exposé into the way of life, culture, religious beliefs, occupations, traditions, and customs of the major six tribes in Ethiopia. These tribes include the Hamar tribe, the Tigray tribe, the Afar tribe, the Raya tribe, the Harrar tribe and the Lasta Lalibela tribe. Gelila’s book contains exquisite photographs gracefully portraying the alluring essence of these tribes. The book has gone on to receive several positive reviews.
Parents, Son, Husband, Tyler Perry
There is currently no information on Gelila’s parents; however, it is safe to assume that they are of Ethiopian descent. Nevertheless, we know she has a step-sister named Anna Wrossetti, who happens to be younger than Gelila and has been seen in a couple of social media posts with the model.
Gelila Bekele has never been married, though she has a son with longtime boyfriend, Tyler Perry. Born on the 13th of September 1969, Tyler Perry is an American actor, comedian, filmmaker, writer, and songwriter. He is popular for his role as Madea Simmons. Madea is an on-screen character created and portrayed by him in several of the Madea movie sequels. The sequels were also produced and directed by Tyler Perry.
Most of Tyler Perry’s works are reflective of the black church culture and have gone on to generate millions of dollars in the box-office. He is one of the most successful African American entertainers of all time and was once recognized by Forbes as the highest paid man in entertainment; earning 130 million USD between May of 2010 and May of 2011.
Some of his filmography credits include: Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005), which he wrote, produced and played the roles of Madea/Joe/Brian; Madea’s Family Reunion (2006), where he played the role of Madea/Joe/Brian and was also the writer, director, and producer of the movie. He also wrote, directed and produced Daddy’s Little Girls (2007) which starred Edris Elba and Gabriele Union; and wrote, produced and directed the 2008 American romantic comedy-drama film Meet the Browns which starred Angela Bassett, Rick Fox as well as Tyler Perry himself.
Gelila Bekele’s Relationship With Tyler Perry
Gelila Bekele met Tyler Perry in 2009 and they have been dating ever since. The couple, for reasons best known to them, decided not to get married. However, they live together and do practically everything that married couples do. On the 30th of November 2014, Gelila and Tyler were blessed with a bouncing baby boy named Aman Tyler Perry.
Gelila and Tyler have decided to keep their son away from social media and more so, the eyes of the public. They believe that Aman is not popular and shouldn’t have to deal with the scrutiny and publicity of social media that their celebrity status might bring until he is old enough to decide for himself. The couple even went to the extent of building a church similar to the church Tyler’s mother, the late Willie Maxine Perry attended while she was alive. This was done in their backyard for Aman’s christening, in order to keep him away from the press.
Tyler has stated severally that he is a Christian and holds the precepts of the bible sacrosanct. However, he has been criticized by the Christian society for not making an honest woman out of Gelila. Some people have questioned his faith as well as his sexuality as result of his decision not to take Gelila to the altar. Nevertheless, we believe that the couple is in the best position to make this decision for themselves and should not be coerced into marriage. Whenever they do decide to get married we will support them with the strokes of our keyboard.
Bekele has been somewhat covert with her net worth. But we believe she is doing well financially because of the endorsement deals she has been able to land in the course of her modelling career. Nevertheless, some reports have placed the combined net worth of her and that of her partner Tyler, to be at a ginormous 600 million USD. This explains why the couple can afford to buy a lavish house in Beverly Hills, California for 14.5 million USD and also own a Rolls Royce as well as a private jet worth 125 million USD. Gelila and Tyler are renowned humanitarian philanthropists and have given millions of dollars to charity.
