He was born on March 31, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York. Although he was inclined to sports, Gabe Kaplan also had a strong flair for arts. He started out as a comedian, after learning the tricks of the trade from comedians who performed at a New Jersey hotel where he worked as a bellman.

From watching and learning from the comedians, Gabe began his own journey in the business in 1964 when he started performing at bars and cafe. Gradually, he started gaining momentum and proceeded to embark on tours. Kaplan also went on to record comedy albums. He grew massively in the entertainment industry with his exploits, exceeding even his own expectations.

Being on a reputable pedestal in the industry also drew him a lot of attention from stakeholders. Gabe Kaplan for his amazing records, worked on the popular American sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter’, alongside its producers Alan Sacks and Eric Cohen. He was of great help in the production and casting of the show which he also starred in. Gabe was part of the cast from 1975 till it ended in 1979.

The comedian joined the ABC celebrity athletic competition Battle of the Network Stars. As a representative of ABC, he led the network to a great win, gloriously defeating other contenders from NBC and CBS. Other shows also followed afterward and Kaplan made remarkable appearances in them. He rose to prominence in the game when he won the main event at Amarillo Slim’s Super Bowl of Poker and continued to make it to the finals of Super Bowl’s main event. The comedian was born as Gabriel Weston to Charles Kaplan, his father and Dorothy Kaplan his mother. His parents were Jewish and brought him up with Jewish values.
