In 2013, Disney released one of its best animated musical fantasy films titled Frozen. The film was made with a budget of $150 million and after its release, it made over 8 times that amount at the box office at the tune of $1.276 billion. On several movie review sites, Frozen has high ratings just as it easily comes into mention in any list of the best movies of its cast members. Seeing the immense success of the film, Walt Disney Animation Studios knew fans of Frozen deserve to be thrilled a second time and thus, Frozen 2 went into production.
The second installment of the computer-animated musical fantasy film has its storyline continued from where the first installment ended. As you would expect, many cast members of Frozen returned to lend their voices to their various characters in the second season. In the paragraphs below, you will get to meet the famous actors and actresses whose animated characters made the Walt Disney Animation Studios film popular.
Meet The Actors and Actresses Who Voiced Characters In Frozen 2
Idina Menzel (Queen Elsa)
Continuing in her role as Queen of Arendelle, the Ice Queen and Princess Anna’s elder sister, Queen Elsa which is voiced by Idina Menzel retained a prominent role in Frozen 2. In the new release, 3 years after normalcy has been restored in Arendelle, Elsa, her sister Anna, Olaf, Sven, and Kristof set off to discover the origin of Elsa’s magical powers and also save their homeland.
Idina is a talented American born actress whose career began in 1995. She is also a well-known theater performer, a singer and a songwriter. Aside from being a member of the celebrated Frozen 2 cast, other notable works she has starred in include her portrayal of Elphaba in the Broadway musical Wicked, Elizabeth Vaughan in 2014 musical If/Then, Nancy Tremaine in Disney’s Enchanted and Shelby Corcoran in musical dramedy TV series Glee.
Kristen Bell (Princess Anna)
The brave and good-hearted sister of Queen Elsa named Princess Anna was is voiced by American actress and Tisch School of the Arts graduate Kristen Bell. In Frozen, she risked her life by stopping Hans, the prince from the Southern Isles (played by Santino Fontana) from killing her sister. This heroic act which also signified an act of true love was what marked the restoration of normalcy in Arendelle where the first film ended.
Aside from Frozen 2, other top films Kristen has starred in include Veronica Mars (2004–07) as the titular character, Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical (2005) as Mary Lane, When in Rome (2010) as Beth, and Bad Moms (2016) as Kiki, etc.
Jonathan Groff (Kristoff)
Going by the film’s storyline, if not for Kristoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff) and his Reindeer named Sven, Anna’s quest to save her sister would have been futile. She not only convinced them to take her to the mountains but they also stuck with her even after a pack of wolves attacked them destroying Kristoff’s sleigh in the process.
Groff also reprised his role as a cast member of Frozen 2. In the second installment, Groff alongside Elsa, Anna, Ola, and Sven set out beyond the lands of Arendelle to find the origin of Elsa’s magical powers as well as to save their homeland. In the course of their quest, Groff fell in love with Anna. Seeing that his character was written into Frozen 2, we will get to know what becomes of the love between him and Anna.
Before Frozen, Jonathan Groff came into the limelight in 2006 with his lead role of Melchor Gabor in Spring Awakening. His other acting credits are seen in C.O.G. (2013), American Sniper (2014), The Simpsons (2014) and others.
Josh Gad (Olaf)
Another famous Frozen and Frozen 2 cast member which the animated movie will clearly be incomplete without is Olaf; the jolly snowman voiced by Josh Gad. We saw in the first film that after Elsa restored a warm climate to Arendelle, she made Olaf his personal snow flurry so he can survive the now much warmer Arendelle. In Frozen 2, he followed Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Sven to embark on a quest to save their homeland.
After Josh’s role as Olaf in Frozen, the talented American actor landed a lot more roles in various other movies and TV shows with which he has drawn a commendable amount of fan following to himself. Such acting works include his voicing of Chuck in the Angry Birds Movie 1 & 2 (2016 & 2019), Hector MacQueen in Murder on the Orient Express (2017), the voice of Damon in Bob’s Burgers episode: “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now for Now” and many others.
Santino Fontana (Hans)
The character of Santino Fontana – Hans, is one that is despised in Frozen. But be that as it may, the role was needed to bring out an interesting twist in the Disney film and this was achieved successfully. In the first film, Hans was arrested and exiled from Arendelle, but having seen that he had previously expressed his intent to seize the throne of Arendelle by killing Elsa and Anna, there is no certainty that he won’t try it again.
Santino Fontana has appeared in more theatre performances than in films and TV shows. These include his appearance as Alex in Sunday in the Park with George (2008), Prince Topher in the 2013 revival of Cinderella, Elliot Rosewater in Kurt Vonnegut’s God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater and many others.
Evan Rachel Wood (Queen Iduna)
Evan will be heard as a Frozen 2 cast member in the role of Queen Iduna, the mother of Elsa and Anna. Her time in the first film alongside Alfred Molina as King Agnarr was quite limited. However, recent reports have it that her character will be seen in Frozen 2.
Just like many other Frozen and Frozen 2 cast members, Evan Rachel Wood’s career has been pretty much on the rise. Some of her works include Drunk History (2018 – 2019), Flavors of Youth (2018) in the segment “Chiisana Fashion Show” and many others.
Alfred Molina (King Agnarr)
Alongside Queen Iduna, Alfred Molina voiced the character of King Agnarr who is also the father of Elsa and Anna. Just like his Queen, the King will be seen in the second film.
Aside from Frozen, Sterling has acting credits in films like The Angry Birds Movie 2 as Garry, The Predator (2018), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2018), etc.
Sterling K. Brown (Lieutenant Destin Mattias)
In Frozen, Lieutenant Destin Mattias was introduced as the leader of the group trapped in the enchanted forest for many years. His character along with his fellow forest dwellers appeared again in Frozen 2 but until the film is released, a lot remains unknown about what his character will be doing in the film.
Outside of Arendelle, Sterling’s filmography boasts of works like Mojave (2015), NBC’s drama series This Is Us (2016–present), The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience (2019) and many others.
Other Cast Members of the Disney Animated Film
Aside from these actors and actresses who made Frozen a delight to watch, these other cast members cannot be left out. They include the likes of Martha Plimpton as Yelana, Rachel Matthews as Honeymaren, Jason Ritter as Ryder and Jeremy Sisto.
