Fletcher Cox is a defensive tackle player who has been with the Philadelphia Eagles since 2012. Leading up to the 2018 Super Bowl on Sunday, February 4th, his name has been a recurring decimal in many discussions surrounding the biggest sporting event in the US.

For a man who has never watched the Super Bowl his entire life, the 2018 Super Bowl will be the first on so many levels for Fletcher Cox.

An emphatic win over The Minnesota Vikings earned Fletcher Cox’s Eagles a spot at the 2018 Super Bowl in Minneapolis. The Eagles have the pressure off their backs going into the game as the underdogs while the Patriots are the chosen favourites for Sunday’s game tagged Super Bowl LII.

Cox would also be adding his name to the history books of his hometown Yazoo city because the last person to appear in a Super Bowl from the small town was Willie Brown with the Raiders, in 1976, long before Cox was born.

The depth of the Eagles’ defensive line has always helped them to overcome other teams and as Cox is currently one of the highest earning defensive linemen in the NFL history, many eyes would be on him to justify his pay.

During his first four seasons with The Philadelphia Eagles, Cox earned $10.2 million. The Eagles made it clear they wanted him for a long term.

Following that, Fletcher Cox made headlines in June 2016 after signing a six-year, $103 million contract extension with a $26 million signing bonus and $63 million guaranteed money against injury, the most guaranteed money for a non-quarterback.

Being a top player and still in his prime is an indicator that Fletcher Cox is worth this contract which made him the second highest paid Defensive Tackle behind Miami Dolphins’ Ndamukong Suh.

Cox ended the year 2017 with an estimated net worth of $33.4 million mainly from his salary and winnings.  A small fraction of the amount came from his endorsement deals.

Wife, Dating, Girlfriend

Fletcher Cox is possibly single as there are no records of any marital relationships about him. Also, the wedding bells don’t seem like they will be ringing soon as Cox is currently not engaged to anybody at the moment.

Fletcher Cox is currently embroiled in a ridiculous relationship scandal. He is facing a $50,000 lawsuit for “Alienation of Affection” by a man named Joshua Jefferds. In simple terms, the North Carolina resident accuses Cox of “seducing” and sleeping with his wife, Catherine Cuesta Jefferds, while she was on a work trip to Pennsylvania. Cox is also accused of pursuing a relationship with Jefferd’s wife via text messages.

The North Carolina resident has raunchy text messages including nude images as evidence that Fletcher Cox actually seduced his wife. Adding to Jefferds fury is the fact that his wife blocked him on Instagram and moved to Mullica Hill, New Jersey, much closer to where Cox plays in Philadelphia.

As stated in court documents, Cox has asked the case to be dropped claiming that his relationship with Cuesta Jefferds was as a result of a mutual attraction and that she willingly consented to the relationship. Coz also claimed he wasn’t aware that the woman was even married.

As it stands, even if Cox and Cuesta Jefferds are still together they probably will keep it on the low till the case is closed.

Fletcher Cox’s Family

Cox was raised by his mother, Malissa Cox alongside his three siblings while the family lived in a three-bedroom trailer. His mum was a single mother. Cox’s older brother, Shaddrick assumed the role of a positive male figure in his life and pushed him to be a great football player. Sadly, Shaddrick passed away in 2015 at the age of 34 following a fatal heart attack.

Growing up, Cox’s mum, Malissa was sceptical about letting him play football. However, at age 13, following years of pleading and appealing by a coach in their small town of Yazoo City, Cox’s mum Malissa eventually gave her permission. I’m sure she’ll be proud of that decision watching Cox at the Super Bowl 2018.

Upon his graduation from Yazoo City High School, Cox was offered scholarships from LSU Tigers football of Louisiana State University, Alabama Crimson Tide football of the University of Alabama, Auburn Tigers football from Auburn University and Ole Miss Rebels football of the University of Mississippi. However, he chose the Mississippi State University.
