F is for Family is a television show that delves into the life of an American family in the 1970s. It follows a father who spends a lot of time in front of the TV when he’s not working at a job he hates and a mother who is struggling to fit into the societal definitions of a ‘wife’ and ‘mother’. The parents have three kids, each with their own problems and character issues.

F is for Family is an animation, whose main characters are voiced by established Hollywood actors and actresses. The show, created by Bill Burr mostly derives its content from Bill Burr’s stand-up routines.

It is a highly rated show having received excellent reception from critics and viewers alike. F is for Family is produced by Netflix and two other production companies. The show, described as a family comedy is considered one of the better lineups in the Netflix animation roster.

The first season of the show has 6 episodes, with the second having 10 episodes. The show, while regarded to be great among viewers and critics, hasn’t found a similar reception with award committees. Its only award recognition so far came in the 2017 Emmys with a nomination for Mo Collins for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance.

It stars Bill Burr, Laura Dern, Justin Long, Debi Derryberry, Haley Reinhart as the main voice actors. Recurring appearances are made by T.J Miller, Allison Janney, and David Koechner. Vince Vaughan, whose production company, Wild West Television is one of the show’s production companies, is scheduled to make an appearance in the third season. Notable actors on the show include Mo Collins, Trevor Devall, and Phil Hendrie, who all play multiple characters on the show.

Francis X. ‘Frank’ Murphy – Francis, mostly called Frank in the show is an Irish-American. He’s a disillusioned and short-tempered man who works at the local Mohican airlines. The Korean War veteran often spends his time in profanity-laced rants and subjects his children to emotional abuse. He’s voiced by Bill Burr

Sue Murphy – She is Frank’s struggling wife and mother to their three kids. Sue Murphy, who is voiced by Laura Dern, sells Plat-a-Ware alongside navigating a difficult husband and three children.

Kevin Murphy – The eldest of the Murphy children is a rebellious person who spends his time smoking a lot of weed. He is an aspiring but struggling rock musician. Kevin is voiced by Justin Long.

Bill Murphy – Voiced by Haley Reinhart. He is the Murphy’s second son and middle child who suffers from what is described as the middle child syndrome. He also has some anger issues.

Maureen Murphy – Frank and Sue’s last child is brought to life by Debi Derryberry. Although perceived as the sweet small girl, Maureen is a problematic child just like her older siblings. Her interests in traditionally male activities are a source of concern to Frank, who sees her as his favorite child.

Vic – He is the Murphys’ wealthy neighbor who Frank despises; he’s voiced by the incredible Sam Rockwell. The character is based on David Wooderson who was played by Matthew McConaughey in Dazed and Confused.

Other notable characters in F is for Family include, Jimmy Fitzsimmons who is Bill Murphy’s regular bully; Mr. Holtenwasser, who survived the Holocaust; Robert Pogrohvich, Frank’s smoking addicted boss played by David Koechner.
