After making his professional hockey debut with the Traktor Chelyabinsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in 2009, Evgeny Kuznetsov moved on to play for the all-conquering Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). Since then, he has won some titles playing along stars like his fellow countryman and Russian athlete, Alexander Ovechkin.

The Russian plays as a forward for the Washington Capitals and has also represented the Russian National Hockey team in junior and senior level competitions. Evgeny Kuznetsov’s Bio

Kuznetsov, who was born on May 19, 1992, in Chelyabinsk, Russia, made 35 appearances for his first club Traktor Chelyabinsk in his debut season. At the end of his debut season, he recorded 8 points and came in third on the list of best European skaters as collected by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau in preparation for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. During the Draft, Evgeny was a first-round pick by the Washington Capitals.

The 2011-2012 season saw Kuznetsov clinch the Continental Cup and a bronze medal with the Traktors. Kuznetsov’s efforts for his team by the end of the 2011-2012 season earned him a place in the KHL All-Star Game. He played on for Traktor Chelyabinsk for most of the 2013-2014 season.

On March 8, 2014, he was brought on board by the Washington Capitals by signing an entry-level contract. He started off to a flyer, scoring his first – albeit short-handed goal – against the Los Angeles Kings. This goal proved vital for the Capitals as it was scored in the last minute of the game, effectively preventing them from losing the match in regular play. In the next campaign, luck shone on the Russian player – Alexander Ovechkin withdrew due to injury and Kuznetsov was called up to replace him for the NHL All-Star Game.

In the 2017-2018 season, Evgeny put on another impressive showing for the Capitals as he scored a decisive goal in overtime to defeat two-time defending champions Pittsburgh Penguins on their way to defeating Tampa Bay Lightning in the finals.

Evgeny Kuznetsov’s first outing for any Russian side came when he represented the country’s junior side at the 2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Canada. During the preliminary round game against Austria, he was selected as the Man of the Match for his two-goal contribution.

He was also involved in the 2011 edition of the competition, scoring four goals and making seven assists in seven appearances. In the gold medal game against Canada, he also provided three assists to gift Russia a 5-3 win. For his contributions, he was rewarded with a place in the competition’s All-Star Team.
