Early Life and Career

Since she was a child, Elizabeth Olsen has been involved in the entertainment industry. The young actress was born on the 16th of February, 1989 in Sherman Oaks, California to Jarnette and David Olsen. She got started by taking ballet and singing lessons, in continuation of a tradition that had started with her older sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Her sisters being further ahead of her in the industry as actresses, gave her a chance to star in films such as How the West Was Fun and The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley. Despite the media attention before she was 10 years old, Elizabeth still managed to complete her formal education, attending Campbell Hall School in California before moving on to the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University where she studied acting. Through the passion she had developed as a child actress, she continued her learning at a couple of other institutions including the Moscow Art Theatre and the Atlantic Theater Company. Her higher education took six years for her to complete, graduating finally in March 2013.

Her acting career development was in phases, having had a phase from 1993 to 1996 as a child actress, she returned to professional acting in 2011 as an adult, making her debut with Martha Marcy May Marlene. Her return was a powerful performance that earned her critical praise and awards. From 2011, the roles kept coming for the California-born actress. She went on to star in several films including Silent House, Red Lights, Liberal Arts, Kill Your Darlings, Very Good Girls.

Elizabeth Olsen was doing very well for herself in arthouse films and independent productions, picking up critical praise with each performance. In 2015, however, things moved into a higher gear for Elizabeth. Having made a cameo appearance in the post-credit scene of the 2014 Marvel Cinematic Universe film – Captain America: The Winter Soldier, she made her full appearance in the franchise in 2015, playing the iconic comic character, Wanda Maximoff, popularly known as Scarlet Witch. Playing Scarlet Witch elevated her into becoming a top tier actress in Hollywood due to the popularity of the franchise. She has gone on to appear in several more MCU films since her debut and she is expected to appear in a couple more.

With an elevated acting profile comes more popular films and she has had a few of them since she became one of the world’s favorite Witches. She played Audrey Williams in I Saw the Light in 2015 and Jane Banner in 2017’s Wind River. In each film, she worked alongside fellow MCU stars, Tom Hiddleston and Jeremy Renner respectively.

She has also appeared in several television shows including, Sorry for Your Loss where she appears in the main role as Leigh Shaw-Gibbs. She also reprised her role as Wanda Maximoff in a television show, The Vision and Scarlet Witch on the Disney+ streaming service in 2019.

She has a total of five siblings, with three of them being complete siblings – her older sisters, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, and her brother, Trent Olsen. Her half-siblings, as a result of her parents’ divorce, are Taylor Olsen and Jake Olsen. Although her immediate older sisters started out as actresses, they eventually left the profession for other ventures, especially fashion. They have a line of clothing named after Elizabeth.
