If you ever come across people talking about a meteorologist from the Philippines working as a newscaster for ABC’s KTRK-TV in Houston, Texas; they are definitely referring to Elita Loresca.

The Filipino-American newscaster may not be one of those scientists who has extensively studied meteorology but she is surely one of the finest journalists who broadcast weather forecasts in an intelligible and effective manner that resonates with the targeted audience. You wouldn’t watch her telecast without comprehending what she is talking about.

On several occasions, Elita has been praised and admired for her journalistic endeavour. Among other credits she has received are those acknowledging her coverage of what ABC described as two of the most devastating hurricane seasons in recent history. In 2004, when Loresca started working for the Fox-affiliated television station in Miami, Florida – WSVN, she immediately started forecasting and informing people about Hurricane Frances, which eventually became the second most intense tropical storm in the Atlantic for the year. Frances was excessively destructive, particularly in Florida and, it is believed that the way Elita Loresca went about forecasting the hurricane got people to be mindful of it and they ultimately, prioritized their safety.

The next year, she again facilitated the safety of the people when Hurricane Katrina, Rita, and Wilma came knocking. It is said that she dutifully followed the National Hurrican Center’s following of the hurricanes in order to provide her station with useful and updated information that would be valuable to the public.

KTRK-TV and WSVN aren’t the only media outlets Loresca has worked for. Before she joined the Fox-affiliated television station in Miami, she was serving as the morning and noon weathercaster for the CBS-affiliated television station in Fresno, California – KGPE-TV. This was from August 2002 to August 2004. Earlier, January 2001 to August 2002, she equally carried out a similar role for KGET-TV, an NBC-affiliated television station in Bakersfield, California.

Also, prior to Elita’s joining of the ABC-13 Eyewitness News Accuweather team in Houston, she was a member of NBC’s KBNC television program – “Today in LA”.
