Beyond actress, Dilan Gwyn was raised in Stockholm, Sweden. She was born on June 4, 1994, to Orhan Kotan, a Kurdish poet, journalist, and writer. She belongs to white ethnicity while her nationality is Swedish.

Dilan was raised along with her elder sisters whose names are not known publicly. She had and completed her high school education in Sweden and later moved to study film at Stockholm University, from where she took to the University of Sorbonne in Paris to study French. From Paris, Gwyn relocated to London, where she lived and worked for some time.
