DeShone Kizer’s Bio
Born on the 3rd day of January 1996 in Toledo, Ohio, USA, DeShone Allen Kizer is a young and rising professional football player who plays American football as a quarterback for the National Football League’s Green Bay Packers.
In the early days of his life, it could be said that DeShone was something special, he was developing his academic intelligence as he was growing with a ball in his hands. He attended Central Catholic in Toledo, Ohio for his high school and by eighth grade, he had become a complete nerd and was poised to be the valedictorian of his set.
In football, he led the Central Catholic Fighting Irish to a 14-1 record and the Division II state title. But despite his football status, DeShone was much more than just a sports personality. The student government, as well as the Sideline Spirit team which organized pep rallies for football and basketball games, were other things that DeSHone involved himself with. He was also one of five finalists for Super Fella at the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Things changed, however, when he proceeded to Notre Dame for his college education. Kizer found his niche and followed his heart – football.
You could say he was destined to be a college athlete and possibly a professional one. He knew after his freshman year that he wanted to play on the biggest stage and knew based on his recruitment that football was going to be his biggest avenue, so he placed his focus on that. DeShone started playing football professionally after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
His success in his chosen career path has paid him well financially. He inked his first contract, on 14 June 2017. A four-year contract worth $4.94 million including $2.42 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $1.73 million. Since then, he has been playing from the quarterback position. He joined the Green Bay Packers in 2018.
Family and Parents
The second of four children, Kizer is the son of Derek Kizer, a police officer, and Mindy Kizer, a court bailiff. His father played basketball at Bowling Green from 1987 to 1991 and went on to play for a season in France. DeShone’s mom was also athletic during her prime as a three-sport athlete at Ohio’s Clyde High. During her college days at the University of Toledo, she ran track.
DeShone’s father has a very direct parenting style. His parents had informed him ahead of high school that the possibility of affording his college tuition was highly unlikely. Thus, enlisting in the army or earning an athletic scholarship were DeShone’s only two shots at a college education.
Though DeShone’s parents didn’t have the means to afford college tuition they did pay for his high school education which ultimately put him in the path to earn a scholarship to college.
DeShone’s father coached him in multiple sports, including rec league and AAU basketball from third to seventh grade. His dad spent his post-playing days protecting his community and helping the youths. He had a mission of putting kids in a position where they can do more and not end up on the streets.
DeShone has a younger brother and sister: Dayven Kizer (brother) and Maelyn Kizer (sister). Both siblings are in high school as of 2018 and have not bought into the stardom of their older brother. The one thing that has been consistent through the years though is that his parents and siblings have supported all of his success stories.
He was in a romantic affair with Elli Thatcher. The couple had been friends since high school and started dating officially in 2014. During the spring of 2015, his high school sweetheart discovered a baseball-sized tumor near the base of her skull (neck) which had to be removed.
She was diagnosed with cancer. As Thatcher fought against the tumor during her surgery days in the hospital, Kizer stood by her side – creating a balance between football and his relationship. In the aftermath of the surgery, her throat, vocal cords, and tongue were paralyzed. She could hardly speak or swallow. In addition to that, her left leg below the knee part was paralyzed. Deshone became emotionally drained and was on the verge of quitting football.
He and Thatcher eventually ended their relationship after a series of complicated career-and-life-threatening events. He rededicated himself to the game.
