Dennis Quaid is an American actor, comedian, and cinematographer known for playing a wide variety of comedic and dramatic roles in films, movies and in cinemas. He gained fame in the 1980’s but had issues with drug abuse and eating disorders. Fortunately, he was quick to address this problem and blossomed even more in the movie industry.

Dennis William Quaid who is the younger brother to actor Randy Quaid was born on April 9, 1954, in Houston Texas as the son of Juanita B. Quaid (mother) who was a successful real estate agent and Rudy Quaid (father), an electrician who was successful as well in his profession. His family has roots to an English, Irish, Scots-Irish and French ancestry.

In high school, Dennis got involved with drama classes where he excelled playing various roles assigned to him. He got admitted into the University of Houston but dropped out before he could graduate in order to make good on his acting interest in Hollywood.

Arriving in Hollywood, he had in no small way, difficulties in finding work as an actor. As such his acting career ebbed much to his dissatisfaction. Dennis persevered and began getting little attention as he worked as a cast member on some projects. He gained significant attention when he appeared in Breaking Away of 1979 which earned good reviews and critical acclaim. Dennis Quaid was praised the more for his expert portrayal of the character Gordon Cooper the astronaut in The Right Stuff of 1983.

The talented actor has worked in both comedy and drama films delivering above and beyond what is expected of each character he assumes. Some of his movies include Jaws 3-D (1983), Enemy Mine (1985),  Innerspace (1987). You will probably remember that in the 1990’s he was praised for his portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis in the Great Ball of Fire Film.

His career crawled in the 1990’s when he was fighting anorexia nervosa which came about when he lost about 40 pounds of weight to play the character of Doc Holliday, a tuberculosis-afflicted character in Wyatt Earp and also had a cocaine addiction. This didn’t deter him much as he continued to garner some positive reviews in his films in that epoch.

He starred as the lead character in Dragonheart of 1996, Dennis was the guest star of the season 2 episode of Muppets Tonight (1997). He was on the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap as an aging professional footballer and the twin’s father in Any Given Sunday of Oliver Stone. His recent film credits include Frequency (2000) which was followed by The Rookie and Far from Heaven both in 2002. He was on Cold Creek Manor in 2003, while he was praised for his role in The Flight of the Phoenix, The Alamo, In Good Company, The Day After Tomorrow all in 2004. Yours, Mine and Ours came in 2005 and was followed by Vantage Point after three years. Dennis Quaid was on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Pandorum both in 2009.

Quaid has been in four relationships out of which three blossomed to marriages and ended in divorces for various reasons. He has three children.

His first wife was an actress P. J. Soles who he married on the 25th day of November 1978 and later divorced in 1983.

He got into a relationship with another actress Meg Ryan and the two got married on February 14, 1991, being Valentine’s day. The two met and fell in love during the shooting of D.O.A. Their marriage saw to the birth of a son named Jack Henry on April 24, 1992. Eight years later, they made public their separation on June 28, 2000. By July 16, 2001, their divorce papers were finalized. Ryan revealed that Quaid had been unfaithful to her in the marriage for a long time.

From Ryan, Quaid got acquainted with Shanna Moakler in 2001 who later posed nude for Playboy Magazine with Quaid’s approval. The relationship in all lasted just but eight months.

Texas real-estate agent Kimberly Buffington became his third wife on July 4, 2004, after they got married in Paradise Valley, Montana. Their marriage saw to the birth of fraternal twins named Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace through a surrogate mother on November 8, 2007, in Santa Monica California.

The twins were wrongly administered 1,000 times heparin dosage which was more than the medically recommended dosage for infants. This led Dennis Quaid to file a lawsuit against the drug manufacturer stating that the drugs were not properly labelled. He also became a patient-safety advocate and produced a series of documentaries on preventable medical errors that aired on the Discovery Channel.

His marriage with Buffington had a lot of going back and forth with their divorce decision from 20012 to 2016 when they finally got divorced.
