DeForest Buckner is a professional American football player who plays the position of a defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League. Interestingly, he is one of the tallest defensive end players in the league with an intimidating height of 6 feet 7 inches. Buckner was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers as the seventh overall selection in the NFL draft of 2016. He was honored with the Thomas Herrion Memorial Award and was named to the PFFWA All-Rookie Team in 2016 and in 2017; he also won the 49ers Hazeltine Iron Man Award.

Prior to his professional career, DeForest Buckner played college football with the Oregon Ducks of Oregon University and while he was there; he was selected to the All-American First-team and First Team All-Pac in 2015. DeForest George Buckner was born in Waianae, Hawaii to an African-American father and a Samoan mother on March 17, 1994. He holds an American nationality and belongs to a mixed ethnic origin. Bucker grew up in Honolulu Hawaii where he attended Punahou School situated in Honolulu, Hawaii. While he was there, Buckner was a good sportsman as he participated impressively in several sporting events organized by his school. He played basketball as well as football during high school.

At the end of his high school football career, he was considered a four-star college prospect and was recruited by Oregon Ducks of the University of Oregon. Joining the Ducks in 2012, Buckner was teammates with Marcus Mariota. He played 13 games in his freshman year and recorded 29 tackles and 1 sack. The following year, he played 13 games out of which he started 8 recording 39 tackles and 2.5 sacks that season.

During his junior year in 2014, Buckner was named to the All-Pac Second-team after making 81 tackles and 4 sacks for the season. He also led the Ducks to win the 2014 Pac-12 football championship. In his senior year, he had an impressive record of 83 tackles and 10.5 sacks. He was selected to the All-12 First-team, First-team All-American, and he also won Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year following his wonderful performance. DeForest Buckner graduated from college with a degree in criminology.

DeForest Buckner declared for the NFL Draft of 2016, he was regarded as one of the best defensive end prospects in the draft. During the draft, he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. He was the seventh player to be drafted that year. Joining the 49ers, Buckner had an impressive rookie year with the team. He made 73 tackles and six sacks while recording 1,108 snaps for the 49ers. At the end of the season, he won Thomas Herrion Memorial Award and was named to the PFFWA All-Rookie Team.

During the 2017 season, Buckner made a great impact in their season opener against Carolina Panthers. He held Panthers quarterback Cam Newton to three yards rushing and 171 passing yards. He finished the season with a record of 43 tackles and 3 sacks in 16 gameplay. Buckner was honored with the 49ers Hazeltine Iron Man Award for his outstanding performance in the season.

Buckner was born to an African-American father George Buckner and his Samoan wife Maria Buckner. He has two siblings, a brother named Kenya Buckner and a sister Shawntelle Buckner. When he was thirteen years old, his father was involved in a motorcycle accident which left him in a coma for six days. When he woke up, he summoned DeForest to his bedside and the pair had a man-to-man talk. After their conversation, Buckner experienced a great change in his life; he became a man and started taking responsibilities with his family. He also became a mentor to his younger brother Kenya. His father instilled discipline in them and that has helped to shape his life; thus contributing to his success in the game.

She graduated with honors from University of Oregon obtaining a degree in Business and Economics in 2016.
