He was born to Thomas Scott Strathirn, Jr and his wife Mary Frances Strathairn; Thomas was a Physician while Mary was a Nurse. David also has a brother called Tom as well as a sister identified as Anne.
The actor had his early tutelage at Redwood High School in his birthplace in California and when he graduated from there, he was admitted into Williams College located at Williamstown in Massachusetts.
