David Duval Wife, Son, Family, Bio, Height, Weight, Body Stats

Many would do just anything to have David Duval back on the golf course than on Golf Channel where he currently works as a studio analyst. Duval’s journey into fame began in 1995 when he received his first PGA card; this was after winning the ACC player of the Year Award twice, playing on the Nike Tour for two years and winning twice and also emerging as the 1993 National Player of the Year.

His career has been packed with so many wins and great achievements which include earning the title of World No. 1 Golfer. Between two years (1997 and 1999) David Duval won a total of eleven tournaments out of thirty-four. These wins include a 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, where he recorded a total score of fifty-nine.

By 2001, he has won a total of thirteen PGA Tournaments. He also won his only major title that year at The Open Championships. It was at this point that Duval’s career began to take a downslide turn. Following series of injuries and medical conditions, he lost his tour card in 2011, and his several attempts at a comeback ever since haven’t yielded the expected results and to keep himself relevant, he accepted the job as a studio analyst and commentator at Golf Channel and the NBC. Here is the story of a  former World No. 1 Golfer, David Duval.

His Biography

Duval was born November 9, 1971, in Jacksonville, Florida as David Robert Duval. His father Bob Duval was a golf instructor and club professional and his mother Diane Poole Duval was a member of the FSU Flying High Circus back in college.

David isn’t an only child; he had two siblings – an older brother (Brent) who died of septicemia at the age of twelve and a younger sister named Deirdre. Brent had developed aplastic anaemia at the age of nine, his condition grew worse with time and he needed a bone marrow transplant which David donated but the transplant wasn’t successful; thus, leading to his (Brent) death.

Brent’s demise would change the course of the family forever. Unable to bear his son’s death, Bob moved out of the family house for almost a year but through counselling, he returned to the in 1982 and would leave permanently in 1993 just when David was beginning his career as a golfer.

Duval had the privilege of learning the basics and rudiments of the game of golf from his father who was a golf instructor, thus, he owns his career achievements partly to his father. He attended Episcopal High School of Jacksonville, where he graduated from in 1989. In that same year, he won the U.S. Junior Amateur championship. He didn’t stop there but would go ahead to continue his amateur career on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men’s golf team and in no time, he won the first-team All-American not once or twice but four consecutive times.

David also won the ACC Player of the Year title twice and the 1993 National Player of the Year Award. During his college days, he led an official PGA Tour event (BellSouth Classic) which he won as a professional after 3 rounds.

He began to rise quickly in his career. Duval was on the Nike Tour for two years and within that period, he won twice. In 1995, he earned his PGA Tour card and that became a ticket to a whole lot of endless opportunities and wins. Between 1995 and 1997, he finished second place seven times in the Tour but that soon changed.

Before the year (2007) ended, David Duval won both the Michelob Championship and the 1997 Tour Championship. The following year (1998), he led in the PGA Tour money list and also won both the Byron Nelson Award for lowest scoring average and the Vardon Trophy. By 2001, he has won a total of thirteen PGA Tournaments as well as his only major title at The Open Championships.

After his Open Championship win, his career began to go down and many reasons have been given for the it which include a series of injuries and medical conditions. His several attempts at a comeback have been futile. In 2013, he announced that the season would be the last he would ask for sponsor exemptions to get into tournament fields and that was indeed his last. In 2015, he took the job as a studio analyst and commentator at Golf Channel and the NBC.
