Craig Melvin Bio

Craig Melvin, a native of South Carolina, born on May 20, 1979, is one of the few people who found their passion early in life. As a high school student in Columbia High, he was always interested in telling stories and journalism. His industrious spirit at his young age earned him an Associated Press Award for one of his stories. For his higher education, Craig studied Government and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wofford College.

Craig Melvin’s journalism career had an early start, with his first job as a reporter in high school being a teen reporter for a local news channel, WIS News 10. He returned to the news station after he finished college, deciding to opt for journalism instead of politics due to the passion and early motivation he had growing up.

At WIS News, before he transitioned to WRC-TV in Washington, he was a weekday anchor, and then a feature anchor before he ended his WIS News career as a weekend news anchor. During his time at WIS, he won an Emmy award for his ‘Craig Cam’ live show and was named the ‘Best Anchor’ by the South Carolina Broadcaster’s Organization. At WRC-TV, he was a reporter and anchor for three years.

Every local news anchor and TV reporter dreams of working for a national cable network, with many not achieving the career move throughout their professional life. However, for Craig Melvin, it was a matter of when not if. His journalistic skill was much too good to be ignored and in 2011, he joined MSNBC as a Dayside Anchor. He has been at MSNBC ever since, working as an anchor and co-host for MSNBC Live weekend and MSNBC Live.

In 2012, he started working as a news correspondent for NBC News before becoming its anchor. Craig Melvin has worked in various capacities for the network, with his most popular show on the network being ‘Weekend Today’, a weekend News show where he was co-anchor. In August 2018, he was named the co-anchor of one of NBC’s popular shows, ‘Today’.

A journalist’s career is defined by the story they cover and how they cover it. Melvin, over the course of his career, has been able to cover multiple important stories and events. His political background helped him in the reportage of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. His work as an anchor and news host has also made him conduct interviews with several important and famous personalities across different spheres of life, from politics to music, to sports.

As a successful man in a competitive field, Melvin dedicates some of his time to mentoring upcoming young professionals in the field.
