Cody Kessler is a former USA Today High School All-American who currently plays in the National Football League for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The quarter back joined the Jaguars franchise in March 2018 through a trade that saw his previous team, the Cleveland Browns, take a conditional 2019 seventh-round draft pick.
Cody Kessler was born on the 11th of May, 1993, in Bakersfield, California to Christie and Don Kessler. He attended Centennial High School where he was named California Gatorade Football Player of the Year after throwing for 2,831 yards and 36 touchdowns. After participating in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, he went on to enroll at the University of Southern California (USC).
Kessler was redshirted in his first year at USC, after which he was named as a backup to Matt Barkley. By his second year, he was named starting quarterback for the Trojans, and led them to a 10–4 record. In the 2013 Las Vegas Bowl, he was named the Most Valuable Player after completing 22 of 30 passes for 345 yards with 4 touchdowns. For the whole season, he completed 236 of his 361 passes for 2,968 yards, with 20 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
His third season was as similarly impressive with the previous one as he completed 315 of 452 passes for 3,826 yards with 39 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. the highlight of the campaign was the six touchdowns he threw against rivals Notre Dame. He was the first quarterback to manage as much touchdown throws against the Fighting Irish in its 127-year history.
Cody Kessler’s final collegiate season was similarly as impressive as he completed 298 of 446 passes for 3,536 yards with 29 touchdowns and 7 interceptions before heading to the league via the 2016 NFL Draft.
Cody Kessler Draft Profile
Cody Kessler was considered an average quarterback selection ahead of the draft because physically, he did not possess anything special. He was also noted for not being able to show poise or arm strength for deep, “wow” throws, and would rather settle for the low-risk option. What was, however, impressive about him was his offensive efficiency and completion percentage rate. Kessler has the USC record for completion percentage at 67.5 which made him a two-time finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
His pre-draft measurables from the NFL Combine are 40-yard dash – 4.89 seconds, 10-yard split – 1.68 seconds, 20-yard split – 2.90 seconds, vertical jump – 29.5 inches (0.75 m), broad jump – 8 feet 8 inches (2.64 m).
After putting pen to paper on a four-year contract worth $3.85 million in 2016, with a signing bonus of $664,788, Cody Kessler receives an average annual salary of around $850,000. That figure will surely increase by 2020 when the player does away with his rookie contract and becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Who is Cody Kessler? Girlfriend
I would say that Cody Kessler is punching above his weight by having Ukrainian model Valeriya Kuklishyna as his girlfriend. But if you understand how much of a personality and influence the quarterback wielded at USC, you would know that Kessler could have almost any girl he wanted to.
The pair reportedly began dating sometime in the early months of 2016, just before Kessler was drafted into the NFL. It is unclear if Kuklishyna, who speaks fluent Ukrainian and English, was a student or attended USC, however, she is a professional model represented by LA Models. The camera queen, who recently stared in the “Lonely Girl” music video by Chad Kelley, is also an avid musician who plays both the piano and guitar.
Once they became a couple, Kessler and Kuklishyna were slated to be the next big duo since Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, at least on paper. When either of them was not working, they always seemed to be loved up, spending quality time with each other, and was also quick to post pictures to flaunt their relationship online. After a few months of dating, Kessler took the bold step of asking his girlfriend’s hand in marriage. It all seemed to be going according to script until mid-2017 when they called off their engagement and wiped pictures of themselves off their social media accounts.
